2023 is here and Netflix has got you covered with new must-watch movies from your favorite filmmakers and the endless amount of stars that you love. The popular streaming site will have big action blockbusters, intimate dramas, romantic comedies, sci-fi thrillers, family adventures and many more.

January

JUNG_E (January 20)
Directed and written by Yeon Sang-ho, the film takes place in 2194 where a civil war among those who survived the Earth’s catastrophe breaks out. Major Jung-e, a war heroine, goes into a coma after a serious injury and her family is forced to donate her brain data to ‘Next Generation Lab.’ The lab uses Jung-e’s data to make an AI robot and with that robot, the lab continues to conduct a war simulation. Seo-hyun who is the daughter of Jung-e participates as the robot research leader where she learns about her mother’s secret through the experiments.
You People (January 27)
Jonah Hill and Lauren London star in the comedic film where a rideshare mix-ip in LA brings both Ezra Cohen (Hill0 and Amira Mohammed (London) together where they connect over a shared love of streetwear and music. As they fall in love, their relationship is tested by their families. The cast includes Sam Jay, Elliot Gould, Travis Bennett, Molly Gordon, Rhea Perlman, Deon Cole, Andrea Savage, Mike Epps, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Duchovny, Eddie Murphy and Nia Long.
Pamela, A Love Story (January 31)
This film shows the intimate and humanizing portrait of one of the world’s most famous blonde bombshells. It follows the trajectory of Pamela Anderson’s life and career. From a small-town girl to an international sex symbol, actress, activist, and mother.

True Spirit (February 3)
When tenacious young sailor Jessica Watson (Teagon Croft) sets out to be the youngest person to sail solo, many expect her to fail. With the support of her mentor/sailing coach Ben Bryant (Cliff Curtis) and her parents (Josh Lawson and Anna Paquin), Jessica is determined to accomplish navigating some of the world’s most challenging stretches of ocean over the course of 210 days.
Bill Russel: Legend (February 8)
A documentary about the life and legacy of NBA legend and civil rights icon Bill Russell. Directed by Sam Pollard, an award-winning director, the film features exclusive interviews with Russell before his passing in 2022, as well as access to his sprawling personal archives. From humblest beginnings to earning 11 championship titles in his thirteen-year career as a Boston Celtic. This documentary features interviews with family and friends, including Steph Curry, Chris Paul, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and more.

Your Place or Mine (February 10)
Debbie and Peter are best friends and total opposites. She wants a routine with her son in LA while he thrives on change in New York. When they swap houses and live for a week, they discover what they think they want might not be what they really need.
We Have a Ghost (February 24)
Based on the short story Ernest by Geoff Manaugh, a man named Kevin and his family find that a ghost named Ernest has been haunting their new home. This leads them to become an overnight social media sensation. But when Kevin and Ernest go rogue to investigate the mystery of Ernest’s past, they become a target of the CIA. The ensemble cast includes David Harbour, Jahi Di’Allo Winston, Tig Notaro, Erica Ash, Jennifer Coolidge, and Anthony Mackie.

Luther: The Fallen Sun (March 10)
An epic continuation of the award-winning television saga reimagined for film, a gruesome serial killer is terrorizing London while brilliant disgraced detective John Luther (Idris Elba) sits behind bars. Luther eventually breaks out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary. The film also stars Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Dermot Crowley, who returns as Martin Schenk.
The Magician’s Elephant (March 17)
When Peter (voiced by Noah Jupe) who is searching for his long-lost sister named Adele (voiced by Pixie Davies), crosses paths with a fortune teller in the market square, he only has one question: Is Adele still alive? He must find a mysterious elephant and the magician (voiced by Benedict Wong) who will conjure it, sets Peter off on a harrowing journey to complete three impossible tasks that will change the face of his town.

Murder Mystery 2 (March 31)
Now full-time detectives and struggling to get their private eye agency off the ground, Nick and Audrey Spitz (Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston) find themselves at the center of an international abduction when their friend is kidnapped at their own lavish wedding. The cast includes Adeel Akhtar, John Kani, Mark Strong, Mélanie Laurent, Jodie Turner-Smith, Kuhoo Verma, Enrique Arce, Tony Goldwyn, Annie Mumolo, Zurin Villanueva.

A Tourists Guide To Leave (April 27)
Starring Rachael Leigh Cook and Scott Ly, after an unexpected break up, a travel executive accepts an assignment to undercover and learn about the tourist industry in Vietnam. Along the way, she finds adventure and romance with her Vietnamese tour guide when they decide to reroute the tour bus in order to explore life and love off the beaten path.

The Mother (May 12)
A deadly female assassin comes out of hiding to protect the daughter that she gave up years before while also on the run from dangerous men. Directed by Niki Caro, the cast includes Jennifer Lopez, Joseph Fiennes, Omari Hardwick, Gael Garcia Bernal, Paul Raci and Lucy Paez. Lopez is also one of the producers of the film, including Elaine Goldsmith Thomas, Benny Medina, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Marc Evans and Misha Green.

Extraction 2 (June 16)
Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake after Netflix’s blockbuster action film Extraction. After barely surviving the events of the first film, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary who is tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held. Hemsworth has officially reunited with director Sam Hargrave, with Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO producing and Joe Russo writing. Golshifteh Farahani will be reprising her role with Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili who will be co-starring.

The Cloned Tyrone (July 21)
Directed and written by Juel Taylor, John Boyega, Jamie Foxx and Teyonah Parris star in this pulpy mystery caper. An unlikely trio (Boyega, Foxx and Parris) are thrust onto the trail of a nefarious government conspiracy after a series of eerie events.

Heart of Stone (August 11)
Rachel Stone (Gal Gadot) is an intelligence operative. She is the only woman who stands between her powerful, global, peace-keeping organization and the loss of its most valuable and dangerous asset. The cast also includes Jamie Dornan, Alia Bhatt, Sophie Okonedo, Mathias Schweighöfer, Jing Lusi, and Paul Ready.

Lift (August 25)
Starring Kevin Hart, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ùrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Jacob Batalon with Jean Reno and Sam Worthington, this film is about an international heist crew who are recruited to prevent a terrorist attack, and must pull off the heist on a plane mid-flight.

A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. As she is thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her twits and will to survive. Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, Brooke Carter and Shohreh Aghdashloo.
Pain Hustlers (October 27)
Upon losing her job, a blue-collar woman struggling to raise her daughter takes a job at a failing pharmaceutical start-up, only to get involved in a dangerous racketeering scheme. Directed and produced by David Yates and written by Wells Tower, the cast stars Emily Blunt, Chris Evans, Andy Garcia, Catherine O’Hara, Jay Duplass. Brian d’Arcy James and Chloe Coleman.

The Killer (November 10)
Based on the French graphic novel series by Alexis Nolent (a.k.a Matz) and Luc Jacamon, after a fatal near-miss, an assassin battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn’t personal. Starring Michael Fassbender, Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, Sophie Charlotte and Tilda Swinton.
A Family Affair (November 17)
Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Joey King, Liza Koshy and Kathy Bates star in this surprising romance that kicks off with comic consequences for a young woman, her mother and her movie star boss as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity.

Leo (November 22)
Actor and comedian Adam Sandler delivers signature laughs in this coming-of-age animated musical comedy about the last year of elementary school, seen through the eyes of a class pet.74-year-old lizard called Leo (Sandler) has been stuck in the same Florida classroom for decades with his terrarium-mate turtle (Bill Burr). When he discovers that he has only one year left to live, he plans to escape to experience life on the outside but gets caught up with anxious students, including a mean substitute teacher.

Leave The World Behind (December 8)
Based on the novel by Rumaan Alam, a family vacation on Long Island is interrupted by two strangers bearing news of a mysterious blackout. As the threat grows more imminent, both families must decide how best to survive the potential crises while also grappling with their own place in this collapsing world.
Rebel Moon (December 22)
On the edge of the galaxy, a peaceful colony finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past named Kora to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.
Undated Films
All year round, Netflix will be releasing certain titles. Even though they all don’t have specific dates, fans can expect these to release throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons. In the Spring, Chupa and Kill Boksoon. In the Summer, Happiness For Beginners and The Perfect Find and In the Fall, Love At First Sight, Nyad, Players, and Spaceman.
An Untitled Wes Anderson.Roald Dahl film is set to release sometime in 2023 and also Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, Chakda ‘Xpress, The Deepest Breath, and many more.
From the looks of it, 2023 is going to be a big year when it comes to films. We’re getting all different genres of films and we can’t wait for all these to drop throughout the year.
