Dark Side of the Ring’s New Exciting Season Airing Soon

Dark Side of the Ring

Dark Side of the Ring will return to Vice for a new, exciting, and probably heartbreaking Season 4 on May 30. It was first announced by Variety that the show would be returning very soon.  They also gave the world a hint at some of this season’s topics. The article stated the following:

Dark Side of the Ring is narrated by wrestling legend Chris Jericho. The official description of the fourth season states that it will ‘explore stories like the emotional rollercoaster of one of wrestling’s most captivating and controversial couples, Chris Candido and Tammy “Sunny” Sytch, the car accident that derailed the career of future World Champion Magnum T.A., wrestling’s most unhinged monster, Abdullah the Butcher, a focused look on the troubled life of Marty Jannetty, Shawn Michaels’ former tag team partner, and much more.’”

DARK SIDE OF THE RING LOOKS AT SOME OF WRESTLING’S MOST TRAGIC STORIES

The wrestling docuseries began airing in 2019 and was immediately one of the most interesting shows on TV, at least for wrestling fans.  The show takes a deeper look at wrestling and some of its darker, real-life, behind-the-scenes stories. The first season alone explored Macho Man Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth’s complicated relationship, The Montreal Screwjob, the murder of Bruiser Brody, and the Von Erichs.  Later seasons didn’t hold back from hard-hitting topics either, such as the Chris Benoit family tragedy, The Road Warriors, and the tragic death of Owen Hart.

Dark Side of the Ring has explored some of wrestling’s saddest stories like Chris Benoit’s last days and the death of Owen Hart.  This season will include both well-known and lesser-known stories, such as the late Chris Candido and his wife Tammy “Sunny” Sytch, Magnum TA, Abdullah the Butcher, and Marty Jannetty.

Some of these topics are well known to wrestling fans like the story of Magnum TA and Candido and Sunny.  However, I am very interested to hear about Abdullah the Butcher and Marty Jannetty as I don’t know enough about their stories.

The show’s Executive Producers, Evan Husney and Jason Eisener shared their excitement for the upcoming season. In a joint statement to Variety, they commented:
“We’re incredibly grateful to our viewers for giving this show the life that it has had for the past 4 years. As lifelong fans of professional wrestling, our subjects continue to inspire us. There are so many fascinating and compelling stories left to tell and it’s a privilege to share more of them in our fourth season.”

We won’t have to wait too long to see the new season.  It is set to air on May 30 and will feature 10 episodes.  Aside from the four already announced, we do not know what else would be included in this season.  However, according to PWInsider this season may also include episodes on Mike Awesome and Bam Bam Bigelow. WWE Hall of Famer Hacksaw Jim Duggan was reportedly interviewed for the show so it is thought the drug bust of Duggan and Iron Sheik which helped to break wrestling kayfabe may be included as well.

A trailer was also released via the Dark Side of the Ring Twitter account, and from what I could see, it looks like maybe Doink The Clown and certainly Junkyard Dog are in the trailer (see below).

Dark Side of the Ring has proven to be one of VICE TV’s most popular shows. Its success also inspired spinoffs, such as Dark Side of FootballDark Side of the 90s, Dark Side of Comedy, and Tales From The Territories

If you are currently a wrestling fan or were a fan of ‘80s and ‘90s wrestling and have not seen Dark Side of the Ring then I highly suggest checking it out.  It is a perfect mixture of riveting, interesting and heartbreaking.
