The highly anticipated sequel to Insomniac’s smash-hit Spider-Man video game series is just around the corner. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is due out in a little under two months, and some new details have surfaced for the game straight from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). The new listing for the upcoming game reveals its game rating and some rather specific spoiler details on what gamers might be able to expect from the upcoming sequel.
MARVEL’S SPIDER-MAN 2 ESRB LISTING REVEALS SOME RATHER SPECIFIC SPOILER DETAILS
The new PlayStation 5 exclusive is rated T for Teen, which isn’t all that surprising for this type of game. Per the listing, it’s rated T for Teen for “Blood, Drug Reference, Mild Language, Violence.” However, a more descriptive listing has more details on very specific events that happen in the game.

You can read what was in the ESRB listing below. Be forewarned, potential game event spoilers might follow:
“This is an action game in which players assume the roles of Peter Parker and Miles Morales/Spider-Men as they attempt to save New York City from a new threat. From a third-person perspective, players fight crime, swing around buildings, and engage in melee-style combat with enemies. Characters mostly punch, kick, and throw each other during fights; central characters can use special symbiote-based and electricity-based attacks on enemies.
“Some enemies use pistols and/or machine guns during combat; gunshots sometimes result in small splashes of blood. Cutscenes depict further instances of violence/blood: a character choked to death; a dead body turned over; blood drops on a leaf. In some crime missions, characters can be seen trading unnamed drugs for weapons; drug packages can be seen in a car trunk. The words ‘pr*ck’ and ‘a*s’ appear in the game.”
– Per the ESRB
Based on the descriptions, it certainly sounds like Marvel’s Spider-Man game will be a darker and more intense experience than the first game and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It certainly makes sense that this game would have some darker and more intense moments considering the subject matter of Peter Parker being possessed by the black suit or the Venom symbiote suit, along with the appearance of Venom himself.
Granted, the ESRB listing doesn’t specify who is being strangled to death. However, Venom has strangled some of his enemies to death in the past by choking them with his symbiote issue. Characters discovering a dead body isn’t all that surprising, even in a Spider-Man video game. The listing also hints at some drug and weapons dealing subplots, which should be interesting to see how those will play out throughout the gameplay experience.
Besides Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games is also developing a new solo Wolverine video game, which is also in the works for PlayStation 5. The Wolverine game was first revealed way back at the PlayStation Showcase 2021.
There haven’t been too many updates for it yet, but hopefully, someone will be coming along for it soon. It will be the first solo Wolverine video game title since the X-Men Origins: Wolverine tie-in game for the movie was released back in May 2009. That game happened to receive an M for Mature rating. Considering Wolverine tends to have darker, more brutal, and violent storylines, it will be interesting to see how the Insomniac Wolverine video game gets rated.
