Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced the release date of the brand-new online multiplayer game for the My Hero Academia franchise, titled My Hero Ultra Rumble. The upcoming game is set for a multi-platform release on Thursday, Sept. 28.

MY HERO ULTRA RUMBLE LAUNCHES ON MULTIPLE PLATFORMS NEXT WEEK

The new game will be free-to-play and playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC. The hero roster will also feature Eijiro Kirishima, Momo Yaoyorozu, and Ibara Shiozaki. They join all the fighters previously featured in the game’s Open Beta Test. The game will launch between 18 of fans’ favorite Heroes and Villains of the MHA franchise.

My Hero Ultra Rumble - 2

In My Hero Ultra Rumble, players create a team and fight for victory in a battle royale format. Eight teams of three will face off to be the last one standing over a vast stage. Players will have to fight to survive while also staying on the move as the battle area continues to shrink over time, forcing them into more deadly encounters with their opponents. The game features fierce combat, and players must push their characters’ Quirks to the best of their abilities.

Additionally, Bandai Namco has confirmed that players can get a head start on the upcoming launch by following the X account (formerly Twitter) for the game. In-game gifts will be given away for the game on launch day depending on the total number of followers on the official account.

My Hero Ultra Rumble is based on the hit anime and manga series created by Kohei Horikoshi. The franchise has already seen some great video games so far, including My Hero Academia: Battle for All, My Hero: One’s Justice, My Hero: One’s Justice 2,  and My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero. Characters from the franchise also appeared in the Jump Force video game, such as Izuku Midoriya (aka Deku), Katsuki Bakugo, and All Might. However, a new battle royale-style game for the franchise, similar to Fortnite or PUBG is very interesting.

Based on the trailers, the game will also be available in English, featuring the voice actors from the anime’s English dub, so it looks like it will be an authentic experience. Not to mention, throughout the story, the heroes frequently train in free-for-all battle royals as part of their school curriculum and in sports tournaments. So in a way, a battle royale game for the My Hero Academia franchise makes a lot of sense.

Also, it looks like the battle stages and environments look similar to the ones that have appeared in the show before. So, it looks like the developers did a very good job of making this a faithful and authentic gameplay experience for the anime and manga.

Based on the footage, it appears there will be civilians who need to be rescued during the gameplay experience. More screenshots for the upcoming game can be viewed in the gallery below:

Interestingly enough, the game also launches right before the New York Comic-Con, which will see the world premiere of a brand-new OVA episode for Season 6 of the MHA anime. The world premiere screening of the original episode will take place on Friday, Oct. 13 at 5:00 pm EST (10:00 pm BST) at the Empire Stage for all badge holders in attendance at NYCC.
