The WandaVision series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is to release sometime next year in 2024 on Disney+. After the character became a fan favorite in 2021, later that year it was announced that Kathryn Hahn will reprise her role as Agatha Harkness in her very own Disney+ series. Since its announcement, there have been rumors about what the plot will be about, what new characters will be featured in the series, and how the title of the series has changed a few times over the past two years. It looks like a new synopsis for the premiere of the series has been revealed, including some fun clues.
FIRST EPISODE SYNOPSIS FOR AGATHA: DARKHOLD DIARIES
Marvel Studios has done countless listings on the U.S. Copyright Office. They’ve done a few with other anticipated MCU Disney+ series like Daredevil: Born Again and Echo. The brand-new synopsis for the series reads:
“In the first episode, we see Agatha finally break out of a spell she has been trapped in. She can’t wait to go back to her old murderous ways only to find that she is powerless. The only way forward for her is to embark on a perilous quest to get her powers back with the help of an unlikely friend or two.”

It will be interesting to see how the character will go throughout the series in trying to gain her powers back. It has also been talked about how Agatha will be seeking out Billy Maximoff as he is one of the most powerful characters among him and his twin brother, Tommy.
FIVE MAIN AGATHA CHARACTERS HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED
The first episode synopsis is not the only thing that was revealed but also the confirmation of the six actors who will be playing major roles in the series. In the same U.S. copyright filing, Marvel Studios confirmed the six main actors and characters. Alongside Kathryn Hahn, the actors who are confirmed for the series are Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, and Ali Ahn.
Aubrey Plaza will be playing a character named Rio. The actress was first confirmed to take on a role in the series but her character was kept secret. However, many fans now know that she will take on Rio. This comes after rumors of her playing Rio Vidal began circulating.
The last name is not listed in the filing; the character is not only a new character in the series but in the Marvel world. She doesn’t exist but rumor suggests that she may be a villain. Nothing about whether she will be a protagonist or antagonist has been officially confirmed.

Joe Locke became the first new actor who was cast in the spinoff series. Deadline reported that Locke’s unknown character was “a gay teen with a dark sense of humor,” many believing that he may be playing an older Billy Kaplan aka Wiccan. Locke’s character is only currently listed as “Teen.” His name is most likely not called Teen but Marvel Studios decided to name him that so it wouldn’t give away a potential spoiler.
Patti LuPone was first confirmed in April that she would be playing Lilia Calderu. In the comics, Lilia is a mystical being who is associated with mystical elements adapted into the MCU, like the Book of Cagliostro. Her character is not very known so it will be interesting to see how the character will be involved in the story.
Sasheer Zamata’s role has been revealed as Jennifer Kale. In the filing, she is listed as Jen K and she is a sorceress who worked alongside Man-Thing. This is interesting because we were able to meet Man-Thing in last year’s Werewolf By Night Marvel Studios television special. She has worked with numerous heroes, including a team of witches. There’s been speculation that the group will be forming in the Agatha series.
Ali Ahn was revealed to be part of the series after a set photo was leaked. She will be playing a Marvel Comics character named Alice Gulliver who is a mystical hero with the alias “The Wu.” This character has appeared in Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch stories in the comics. The actress is listed as playing someone named Alice, it wouldn’t be much if the surprise character is Alice Gulliver. The character is rooted in the magic that will become a big part of the series.
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is rumored to be released in September 2024 on Disney+.
