Having started his acting career at a very young age similar to Timothée Chalamet, Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise has a similar idea on what the still relatively young, burgeoning actor is going through in his career. Speaking to GQ, Chalamet recently shared some of the wisdom he received from Cruise when the two recently met, and it looks like it was very profound.

Tom Cruise turned 61 years old earlier in July, and he’s had a 40-plus-year career acting in major Hollywood motion pictures. He scored his first breakout role and big hit with the 1983 film Risky Business, which was released shortly after Cruise had just turned 21 years old that year. He’s been in a similar boat as Chalamet before, and he’s probably had to make similar choices and faced similar challenges.

During a recent chat with GQ, Chalamet shared what happened when he met Cruise recently after wrapping up filming the first Dune movie. Chalamet stated on Cruise, “After I met Tom Cruise, right after finishing the first Dune, he sent me the most wonderfully inspiring email.” The actor continued, “He basically said, in Old Hollywood, you would be getting dance training and fight training, and nobody is going to hold you to that standard today. So it’s up to you. The email was really like a war cry.”

Chalamet has already been nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the 2018 film Call Me By Your Name. Cruise has received four Oscar nominations throughout his illustrious career but has never taken home the Golden Statue. He has taken home several Golden Globe Awards for his work in the films Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia.

It sounds like Cruise very much respects Chalamet and the body of work the acting is currently building with his career. Chalamet currently looks to be making interesting choices, and his stardom is currently rising. Also, it looks like Cruise was blunt and fairly honest to Chalamet, without trying to be rude or mean-spirited.

The words he imparted to Chalamet looked like they were meant to motivate and inspire the young actor. And based on Chalamet’s comments, it appears Cruise’s words very much did the trick. It would be interesting to see if the two actors might eventually work with each other on a project in the near future considering they are both generational acting talents.

Timothee Chalamet, Dune

Tom Cruise is expected to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt once again in the eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible film franchise, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, which is due out later next year. However, the film might undergo further delays due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Meanwhile, Chalamet stars in the iconic role of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka in the upcoming prequel, Wonka, due out December 15. He returns as Paul Atreides in the upcoming sci-fi sequel, Dune: Part Two, which was recently delayed to March 15.
