MCU’s Earth Uncovered – Is It 616 or 199999 In Marvel Cinematic Universe?

It's the battle between Earth-616 and Earth-199999. Where does the MCU sit on the timeline? Read more to find out!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s algorithmic universes have always been a top conversation among Marvel fans. Many have questioned which Earth and timeline does the MCU fall upon. Over the years, there have been two universes that we have been told that the MCU is “Earth-616”, but many have come to believe that it is actually “Earth-199999.”

The Earth of the MCU has officially been confirmed and here is what we know about it.

MCU IS OFFICIALLY EARTH-616

Fans can now sigh in relief as the MCU Earth is “Earth-616.” According to the widely discussed Marvel Studios Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline book that was released a few weeks ago, they officially named the Earth of the MCU as 616. This is talked about throughout the book and Miss Minutes even makes an appearance in the introduction by saying, “I’m Miss Minutes, and welcome to the guidebook on the beings and events that make up the universe known as 616, also known as the Sacred Timeline.”

We first learned about the multiverse in the first Doctor Strange film where the Ancient One questions Strange’s place in the multiple realities. Also, in Thor: The Dark World, when Erik Selvig was explaining some theories about the universe, on the chalkboard where he was charting it out, you can clearly see the words “616 Universe.” Let’s also not forget when Quentin Beck (better known as Mysterio) told Peter Parker that the MCU’s universe is Earth-616.

This will all lead up to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness where those who are living in Earth-838 have called Strange’s universe as 616. Even though this could all stay true, in other universes, the MCU has been called Earth-199999 which does confuse fans.

Back in 2008, Marvel Studios created a little film called Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr.’s career skyrocketed after the film and many have called it one of the best MCU films. During that same year, a guide book about the Marvel Universe was released where it was designated as Earth-199999 before the films ever claimed it. Even in this year’s Spider-Man animated film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miguel O’Hara says, “Don’t get me started on Doctor Strange and that little nerd back on Earth-199999!”

During last year’s Ms. Marvel premiere, Iman Vellani spoke to Deadline about how she doesn’t believe that the MCU timeline is not 616 by stating: “As much as Kevin Feige can make us think that it is 616, it is 199999.”

As confusing as it is to know which was the correct Earth, with everyone going back and forth between those two timelines, it is safe to say that all the confusion and troubles have been settled. The MCU lands on the 616 timeline.

There are multiple timelines that haven’t been discovered yet and we must remember that Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe timelines can be spread out to more multiverse-centric projects. The official Marvel Studios’ Timeline book is available now. You can get it through Amazon and wherever books are sold.
