Zack Snyder has just revealed in a recent interview with Total Film (via GamesRader) that his upcoming sci-fi space epic Rebel Moon shares something in common with his 2021 Netflix’s Army of the Dead. Snyder who is the director of both movies revealed that the connection between Rebel Moon and Army of the Dead originally took place in the yet-to-be-completed animated series of his zombie apocalypse movie.
Snyder’s Army of Dead hit Netflix in 2021, and it follows a zombie-infested Las Vegas with Guardians of the Galaxy‘s star Dave Bautista as its lead actor. A few months later its sequel Army of Thieves followed suit.

The next inline would have been the animated series titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas which would have been a prequel to Army of the Dead but unfortunately, it is yet to be completed. In his recent interview with Total Film, Snyder explained to the outlet how the two very different movies are connected.
How Exactly Do Rebel Moon and Army of the Dead Connect?
Firstly, it is important to note that Rebel Moon is a Sci-Fi space movie unlike Army of the Dead which is a zombie movie. According to Snyder, the two movies share a particular character.
The initial intention was for the character to appear in the animated series spinoff of Army of the Dead, but those plans never panned out. That being said, the appearance of that character in both movies means that they share the same universe. Zack Snyder stated the following:
“Army of the Dead has a pretty vast mythology that never made it into the movie. There’s actually a character from Rebel Moon in the Army of the Dead animated series that we never did. At one point in the show, they go through a portal into another dimension, and there are characters in that other dimension that they come across. In Rebel Moon, they’re in this bar, and one of the aliens is one of the characters from the animatic. So it’s definitely a shared universe.”

Following Snyder’s revelations, the question of how two completely different movies could possibly share a character might rise up, especially since Army of the Dead has no serious sci-fi elements in it. Well, this is where Snyder’s previous response in his May 2021 Q&A session comes in. The movie director gave a little information about the appearance of robots in the midst of the zombies. He stated back in May 2021:

“Without giving away too much… If you pay close attention, there’s a number of zombies that are clearly not zombies. You see normal zombies and then you see some robot zombies. Are they monitors that the government has placed among the zombies to monitor them? Are they technology from the other world? What’s happening there?”

Future Plans For Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas
Somewhere else in the interview, the director of Zack Snyder’s Justice League shared what the future holds for the anime version of Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. The director also stated to Total Film:
“We did all the scripts and the animatics, and all the voices are recorded. So you could watch it, even in its crazy animatic form – you can watch the whole run.”
