He-Man will face his most dangerous and deadliest challenge yet in the upcoming animated series, Masters of the Universe: Revolution, the follow-up to Netflix’s 2021 animated miniseries, Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Netflix dropped a new official teaser trailer for the project next week, showcasing He-Man facing Hordak and his deadly Horde. You can check out the newly released teaser right here:

HE-MAN MUST SAVE ETERNIA FROM HORDAK IN MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: REVOLUTION

In the new animated season, a sequel to Revelation, He-Man/Prince Adam (Chris Wood) faces a new threat to Eternia and Castle Grayskull in the form of a newly mechanized Skeletor (Mark Hamill), along with the might of Motherboard (Meg Foster, who portrayed Evil-Lyn in the 1987 live-action Masters of the Universe feature).

After Skeletor and Motherboard attack the heart of Eternia, Prince Adam must now grapple with a new responsibility and what that means for him as He-Man. Now, Adam is forced to choose between the scepter or the sword, and life as either the King of Eternia or its champion as He-Man.

Meanwhile, the new Sorceress, Teela (Melissa Benoist), must search for a secret of Snake Magic in the mists of Darksmoke to rebuild a magic realm to help He-Man hold off the greatest threat Eternia has ever faced: the despotic Hordak (Keith David), the ruthless leader of the Horde Empire, who now controls both Motherboard and Hordak.

Prior to the end of Revelation, Skeletor realized that the new god his minions were now worshipping at Snake Mountain, Motherboard, was actually a minion in service to Hordak. Motherboard attacked Skeletor and began implanting him with cybernetic implants, creating this new cyborg version of Skeletor in the series.

Unfortunately, the teaser trailer doesn’t offer a full reveal of Hordak, but you do see the Horde-bots and some audio footage of the amazing Keith David as Hordak. He notes in the teaser, “For uncountable eons, I have spread across the galaxies like a virus conquering 10,000 worlds to hold my Horde. And on every planet, there has always been a hero. The One.”

It looks like He-Man and the Masters will have their work cut out for them in this follow-up, which is the second of a planned animated series trilogy for Masters of the Universe on Netflix. What’s also cool is that it looks like He-Man will don a version of his famous Battle Armor suit from the classic toyline.

Another interesting reveal is that it appears Teela comes into contact with the dragon Granamyr, another deep cut from the classic 1980s Filmation cartoon and the more recent Classics figure series. The new season will shift the theme to Magic vs. Technology. While the Revelation series received a great deal of controversy for various reasons, it was well-reviewed, earning a 93% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also did well enough to garner a follow-up series.

Revolution also stars Diedrich Bader as King Randor, Liam Cunningham as Man-at-Arms/Duncan, Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn, Griffin Newman, and William Shatner of Captain Kirk and Star Trek fame. The series is executive produced by Kevin Smith, Ted Biaselli, Rob David, Christopher Keenan, and Frederic Soulie.

Bear McCreary is back to score the music themes for the show. Also, animation production is once again handled by Powerhouse Animation Studios.

Masters of the Universe: Revolution launches on Jan. 25, 2024, exclusively on Netflix. The show will feature five episodes available at launch, so it looks like the season will be split similar to Revelation’s 10 episodes earlier on. Revelation is also available to view on the streamer.
