De Faría has reportedly been cast in the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer, who will be one of the villains for the upcoming feature. Spica as The Engineer is a member of a team of superpowered individuals known as The Authority. She has a liquid body due to nanites in her bloodstream. Due to the nanites in her blood, she can shapeshift and create solid objects.

The Engineer was created by writer Warren Ellis and artist Bryan Hitch. She’s the second Engineer in the comics and made her first appearance in The Authority Vol. 1 Issue #1 in 1999. If The Authority are being presented as the villains in Superman: Legacy, it looks like Big Blue will definitely have his work cut out for him for the upcoming feature.

De Faría joins the cast opposite David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho. It’s unknown if Superman’s longtime archenemy, Lex Luthor, will be appearing in the film in any capacity. He was previously portrayed in the DCEU by Jesse Eisenberg.

De Faria also recently starred in the supernatural horror film, The Exorcism of God, for director Alejandro Hidalgo. The film recently had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest. She also appeared in multiple episodes of the hit freshman FOX TV series, Animal Control, which has been picked up for a second season. She also starred in the SyFy show Deadly Class, based on the Image comic book of the same name. The series was executive produced by Joe and Anthony Russo, best known as directors for the MCU.

With casting and pre-production well underway for Superman: Legacy, it looks like things are continuing to progress nicely for the project since the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike. So, it looks like the film is continuing to prep to start shooting early next year. Hopefully, that means the production will start to take shape, and fans will get a better idea of Gunn’s vision and the direction he wants to take the iconic hero.

It will be interesting to see the angle Gunn takes with The Authority for the film. It wasn’t clear they were going to be the villain at first, but the casting report by Deadline indicates that The Engineer is a villain as part of The Authority. So that would appear to suggest that The Authority are the villains as well. Where the other superheroes will figure into this remains to be seen.

It will also be interesting to see how long Superman has been around at the start of the film. Like does Gunn plan on avoiding the origin story again? Will Superman already be established? Is he still a rookie superhero or new to the game? It will be interesting to see how the story pans out.

Superman: Legacy is currently on track for a July 11, 2025 release date. Despite recent delays in the entertainment industry due to the recent WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike, Gunn recently announced that the film is still on track to meet its slated July 2025 theatrical release.
