TWISTED METAL EARNS SECOND SEASON AT PEACOCK

Based on the classic Sony PlayStation action-racing comedy, the series is produced by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. The show debuted its 10-episode first season earlier in July, becoming Peacock’s most-binged original series in its first week.

According to Peacock, the show remains among the top three of Peacock’s original shows of all time and continues to attract new viewers every week. Speaking on the announcement, series showrunner, executive producer, and writer Michael Jonathan Smith commented, “I have to give a Sweet Tooth-sized thank you to our incredible fans – I read every comment and was so blown away by everyone’s love, support, and rabid enthusiasm for a paper bag.”

Smith continued, “We are beyond thankful we get to continue the story of John Doe, Quiet, and Sweet Tooth as they face off against familiar faces and new grim foes in the long-awaited Twisted Metal tournament. The mixtape is made, and I’m thrilled to get back on the road with our stellar cast and crew.”

The hit series stars veteran MCU star Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Joe Seanoa (aka AEW star Samoa Joe) as Sweet Tooth, with Will Arnett (LEGO Batman) providing the voice, and Thomas Haden Church (Sideways, Spider-Man 3). In the first season, a motor-mouthed outsider (Mackie) is offered a chance at a better life. However, he can only pull this off if he delivers a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

The driver must now team up with an axe-wielding car thief to face savage marauders and driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives a familiar ice cream truck. The series drew a bit of a mixed-to-positive score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes at 68%. However, it currently has an audience score of 94%.
