With the excitement of new debutants, balls, answers to unresolved questions, and burning romances Netflix’s Bridgerton season three is highly anticipated. The streamer finally confirmed the details of the upcoming third season, which will air later this summer in two parts in May and June.
It’s no secret that the fan base around Bridgerton is hungry for more. Season two left us on a huge cliffhanger regarding our beloved Lady Whistledown and the mastermind behind her, Penelope Featherington. This will also be the first look at the series since the spinoff Queen Charlotte aired. While the two are separate, there were a few eye-opening moments that might impact the whole world that is Bridgerton moving forward.

Add all of that to the fact that this particular love story has been talked about by fans since episode one of season one. That is because season three is all about the romance between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). Unlike other characters that we are introduced to at the start of a new season, these two have been written into our hearts with every episode. Watching the love that she has for Colin, while he blindly views her as just his “sister’s friend,” is painful.
NETFLIX REVEALS BRIDGERTON SEASON 3 DROPS IN TWO PARTS
With the recent announcement from Netflix and Shondaland, that pain has become slightly more bearable. That is until you realize that season three will be broken up into two parts! The upcoming season is scheduled to have a total of eight episodes, with Part 1 airing on May 16, 2024, and Part 2 airing on June 13, 2024. One can just imagine how upset Lady Whistledown would be if she had to wait a whole month for the juiciest gossip, which she has already waited for two years to hear.
However, let’s be honest because Netflix could make us wait week after week for a new episode, and we would still tune in to watch. That is because the anticipation of the third season is going to leave fans with a lot of emotions. As well as many people who either will end up loving or hating it. Here is what we know so far about the new season’s plot:
“From Shondaland and new showrunner, Jess Brownell, Bridgerton is back for its third season and finds Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.”
“Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season.”
“But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly. Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.”

EARLY THOUGHTS ON SEASON 3
It’s interesting to see the concept that Penelope is lacking confidence plays a major plot point. One constant critique that has been bounced around through the first two seasons, is the way she is written and showcased. While we understand the trope of the ‘plus size friend’”’ or “forgotten wallflower,” Penelope has always seemed to get treated unfairly. So, while there is hope that finally she is getting her season to shine, there are some of us who want to see her shine without it being tied directly to Colin’s attention.
It’s also important to note that one of the reasons this season looks to be the diamond of the season regarding all of the Bridgerton series, is in part of the underlying plot. There are those who come for the romances, and there are some who have been waiting for the drama to unfold. Especially to see more of the falling out between Eloise and Penelope. As well as to know more, to know anything about Lady Whistledown. This leads us back to the confidence thing. How can anyone be lacking such confidence when in reality they are the brains behind the second most powerful character?0

Now that Bridgerton Season 3 release dates have been announced, it feels like we are one step closer to the main event. One can only hope that in the next few months, Netflix will take pity on our lonely hearts and start peppering in more season three trailers and teasers, because Nicola Coughlan is breathtaking in what images we have seen so far.
