Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that there would be a live-action Minecraft movie, but here we are. If this film does not sound tenacious enough, Jack Black might do something about that.
Nacho Libre himself, Jack Black is said to be joining the cast of the upcoming live-action Minecraft movie starring Jason Momoa according to Deadline. He’ll be playing a character called Steve.
The cast includes Wednesday’s Emma Myers, The Color Purple’s Danielle Brooks, and the young Sebastien Eugene Hanson.
The Live-Action Minecraft Movie Is Taking Shape

Preparations are being met for Vertigo’s feature adaptation of Mojang/Microsoft’s hit game in collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures to begin production in New Zealand. The plot is unable to be mined at the moment, with credits yet to be determined.
Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui, and the late Jill Messick, are producers attached to the Minecraft film. Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, and Jonathan Spaihts are the executive producers.
While Jack Black will always be solidified as Nacho Libre in my heart, he’s a man of many names and many voices. Recently he voiced the fun yet menacing Bowser in 2023’s second-highest-grossing film, The Super Mario Bros Movie. He got his third Golden Globe nomination not long ago for co-writing the film’s infectious love song “Peaches”. The actor, singer, and songwriter boasts an Emmy for Outstanding Voice Performance in a Children’s or Young Teen Program for Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight.

Jack Black will be lending his talents to another videogame adaptation with Borderlands, releasing theatrically on August 9th.
Bringing the focus back to the Minecraft movie, the film is currently set for April 5th, 2025.
