Fishburne joins Liam Hemsworth for the upcoming fourth season. Hemsworth is taking over for the role of Geralt of Rivia, replacing previous star Henry Cavill, who portrayed Geralt in the first three seasons. Speaking on the news via a press release, Fishburne commented, “I’m very excited to be joining the cast and look forward to exploring the wondrous world of The Witcher.” Regis is a fan-favorite character of the franchise who first appeared in the book series written by Andrzej Sapkowski. Regis also appeared in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt video game, which only increased his popularity. The character first appeared in Sapkowski’s novel from The Witcher saga, Baptism of Fire.

In Season 4, Fishburne’s Regis will be introduced as a wise, worldly barber surgeon with a mysterious past. Eventually, he joins Geralt in his journey for the upcoming season. Season 4 of the series will go into production this Spring. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will pick things up from where they left off in the previous season.

In Season 4, Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Ciri have to face a war-ravaged Continent and its many demons while split apart from each other. They will now have to embrace and lead various groups of misfits they find themselves thrown in with. And they will have to survive a baptism of fire to see each other again.

Also in Season 4, Geralt will seek to find Ciri and Yennefer, but he won’t be alone. He’ll also be joined by Jaskier (Billy Batey) and Milva (Meng’er Zhang). Showrunner Hissrich noted in the press release, “This is the beginning of what fans [of the books] will know as the Hanza. It’s the group traveling with Geralt for the rest of the books. This becomes his newfound family.”

She continued regarding Season 4, “He begins to realize that he needs help to get Yennefer and Ciri back, and when you need to help, you actually have to give of yourself as well. So, we start to watch the Hanza build and start to see that there are some amazing emotional connections to come there as well.” So it looks like fans can finally expect the formation of the Hanza in Season 4.

Meanwhile, Ciri will be caught up in a group of misfit teenage bandits called the Rats. Hissrich added on the group, “I know for Freya, it’s so exciting for her to be working with people her own age. [The Rats] are a band of misfit teenagers, and they get up to all sorts of fun and all sorts of trouble. It’s a completely different side of Ciri than we’ve seen before.”
