Shadowverse Evolve is a unique trading card game because it is a physical game based on a digital CCG (collectible card game). Japanese studio Cygames maintains the popular Shadowverse video game, which is available on Steam, The App Store, and the Google Play Store. Shadowverse went live in October 2016 and it has nurtured a dedicated player base ever since.

There was also a Shadowverse anime which ran for two seasons. In the Summer of 2023, Cygames and Bushiroad came together to print Shadowverse Evolve – a modified, physical version of the original game that provides fans with a gaming experience closer to Yu-Gi-Oh or Magic The Gathering than Hearthstone.

SHADOWVERSE EVOLVE – The Physical Version Of The Beloved Digital Card Game

Shadowverse Evolve launched with six starter decks and the first booster pack, Advent of Genesis. These decks introduced the 6 classes players can choose from, specifically Forestcraft, Swordcraft, Havencraft, Runecraft, Dragoncraft and Abysscraft. Each class focuses on different techniques like board-swarming, healing, and aggression. The goal of a Shadowverse Evolve game is to summon followers and drain the life of your opponent’s leader to zero through attacks and effects.

A second booster set titled “Reign of Bahamut” arrived in the fall of 2023. After that, Shadowverse Evolve did a fun crossover with the Cygames multimedia franchise Uma Musume Pretty Derby. The crossover included a starter deck and a booster pack featuring characters from the horse-girl anime, manga, and video game. Uma Musume is more than your average horsegirl story – this series features girls with tails, horse ears, and the ability to run faster than an automobile. The heroes of that universe are born with the names and abilities of legendary racehorses from throughout history. The Shadowverse Evolve cards feature playstyles inspired by the equine racing of the Pretty Derby.

Booster Set #3, Flame of Laevateinn is focused on going back to the basics, but that doesn’t mean they are done with crossovers quite yet. While most of the cards in the set feature more classic Shadowverse illustrations, there are a few exceptions. Some special rare cards will feature artwork depicting the VTuber Millie Parfait. The pull rates for these special cards are currently unknown, but other statistics are available. Flame Of Laevateinn will include 121 new cards. You can find the full setlist here.

Shadowverse Evolve Booster Set #3 – Flame of Laevateinn is going to change the game in a big way. The metagame of a trading card game this young is very malleable and subject to change drastically when a new product is introduced. You can order the new set on TCGPlayer or ask your local card shop if they carry the product. Shadowverse Evolve is going to release Booster Sets #4 & #5 in April and June. In the digital realm, a new video game called Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond is slated for a summer 2024 release.
