However, when Becky Lynch was younger she battled an eating disorder. During a recent episode of The School of Greatness, she opened up about developing an eating disorder and battling bulimia. This first started while training for a bodybuilding competition and eventually led to her becoming bulimic. The former WWE Women’s Champion stated the following:

“I was dying on the inside. I had no energy, my moods were all over the place, I was leering at cookbooks of what I was going to eat when this diet finished. Ultimately, I ended up not being able to make it past 10 weeks of this diet. There was two more weeks until the competition, and the guy who was training me suggested a cheat meal. That was it then; I just went completely off the rails and couldn’t get back on. That then became an unhealthy relationship with food for years and years and years.

“… Then I thought I’ll be a fitness model because it will be easy on my body, but I couldn’t maintain it because I was so hungry, I loved eating so much, and so then I became bulimic.”

Becky Lynch Details Her Past Struggles With Bulimia

Lynch admitted that the start of the poor diet stemmed from being trained for the competition by people who didn’t know what they were doing. The first trainer had never trained a woman for competition and the second left her emaciated. Their poor advice and training caused her years of problems.

Lynch overcame her self-doubt and her eating disorder with time. She eventually made it into WWE’s developmental NXT brand and was later called up to the main roster. With time, she moved away from the Irish Lass Kicker and became The Man who fans know and love today.

Lynch details her struggles during her life and career in her book, Becky Lynch: The Man: Not Your Average Average Girl. She reveals how a young Irish girl from Dublin, Ireland, went from dreaming about being a pro wrestler to becoming one of the greatest wrestlers alive today. Her story is full of unlikely detours to her position at the top of the roster.
