The Vision will be making his return to the MCU in a new Disney+ series that’s currently in the works! Variety reports that Star Trek: Picard executive producer Terry Matalas will be helming a new Vision TV series for Marvel Studios.

Paul Bettany will be returning to his iconic role, with Matalas serving as lead showrunner and executive producer. The new series is currently in the works for Disney+, and it’s reportedly targeted for a 2026 launch.
MARVEL RESURRECTING THE VISION FOR NEW DISNEY+ SERIES WITH PAUL BETTANY AND TERRY MATALAS ON BOARD
While The Vision previously died in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, the character returned in 2021’s WandaVision. In the show, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) created a new version of her lover using her magical Hex powers. However, the scientists at S.W.O.R.D. rebuilt Vision using his discarded parts, creating the White Ghost Vision.
While this incarnation had no emotions and was subservient to S.W.O.R.D., the Hex Vision did a memory transfer, and the ghostly white version seemed to gain some semblances of his previous personality before flying away at the end of the series. However, the magically created Vision was erased from existence after Wanda released her spell. The new show is expected to pick up after the events of WandaVision, showing the next steps as Vision explores his new purpose in life.
Matalas worked on the critically acclaimed third season of Picard, which saw a reunion of the original castmates of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Matalas’ work reportedly left a good impression on the top brass at Marvel Studios.
WandaVision creator and showrunner Jac Schaeffer was previously developing an earlier version of the series for Marvel Studios. However, Schaeffer then focused on another spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness. Agatha All Along is targeted for a Sept. 18 debut on Disney+.
Matalas previously worked as the creator and showrunner for the 12 Monkeys TV series adaptation for Universal Cable Productions, which ran for four seasons. He also worked as the executive producer and showrunner of Season 4 of the CBS reboot of MacGyver. His other credits include Nightflyers, Nikita, Terra Nova, and Star Trek: Enterprise.
It should be interesting to see the approach Terry Matalas takes here. Considering the similarities between characters like Vision and Data from Star Trek, who also appeared in Star Trek: Picard, he seems well-equipped and experienced to handle the storyline for Marvel Studios.
The show does not yet have an official release date other than the expected 2026 release period. It also doesn’t even have an official title yet. Another new Marvel Studios live-action series, Daredevil: Born Again, is expected to debut on Disney+ later next year. Another live-action Marvel Studios show in the pipeline is Ironheart, which is expected to release in September 2025.
The Wonder Man TV series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and from Daniel Destin Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings) and Andrew Guest is another live-action Marvel series in the works. Additionally, Marvel Studios had a lot of great success with X-Men ’97, which recently finished its first season. The show was an overwhelming success with critics and fans alike, and two more seasons are in the works.
Marvel Studios has not yet officially announced the series. With San Diego Comic-Con and Disney’s D23 Expo on the horizon, those would likely be good candidates to officially announce the newly planned TV series, along with the return of Paul Bettany. The newly revealed TV will debut later in 2026 exclusively on Disney+. More details, such as the official title, cast, and release date will likely be revealed later on.
