The upcoming sequel asks if the living and the dead can coexist. It also appears that Lydia Deetz (the returning Winona Ryder) is forced to request the aid of bio-exorcist and troublemaker, Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) for help. You can check out the new trailer below:

It looks like the sequel will be showing a lot more of the underworld than the original entry. It appears Lydia’s daughter gets lost or sucked into the realm of the dead, so she reluctantly asks for the aid of Beetlejuice to help get her back. Of course, high jinks ensue.

There’s also the presence of Monica Bellucci, who appears to be the wife that the bio-exorcist mentioned in the original. Of course, Tim Burton is back in the director’s chair, helming the film with a script by his Wednesday collaborators, Miles Millar and Alfred Gough.

The presence of more exploration of the underworld adds a lot more intrigue for the upcoming sequel. It also offers up something different from the first film. Sequels like this are always difficult, so it will be interesting to see what Burton and his team come up with. At the very least, it’s cool to see Keaton back in one of his more iconic roles. It looks like he hasn’t lost a beat at all.
