Digimon Card Game Lacking Events Cause Fan Outrage as Japan Launch Online Platform

Digimon Card Game fans and Players suffered a lack of events during the Summer of 2024. However, hope shines from a new source online featured overseas.

Digimon Card Game has caused hell for fans as the English version neglects events and fails to deliver expectations. The English version of the TCG has been left in the shadows, with a range of recent activity suggesting issues at Bandai. This includes a significant lack of presence at Summer conventions and continued delays happening for each new booster. However, Bandai Japan has recently unleashed a new online platform that has the potential to take the Card Game to the next level.

Digimon Card Game started the year with Beginning Observer (BT-16) as the first new booster to feature for the English version line-up. 2024 also featured the debut of Digimon Liberator, which was revealed to be a new project that features a Web Comic and Novel series. This new online series features the Digimon Card Game in a dramatically bigger concept as players enter a VR world for highly realistic card battles. Although the first release premiered in April, the English Version structure decks and booster, EX-06, was scheduled for September and features the series exclusive Digimon, Pteromon, and Shoemon.

Although fans are worried about the future of the Card Game, Japan has recently launched a new platform that could help bring the community together around the world. With Digimon Liberator the focus of September, there are a range of concerns that need amending to reassure fans.

Scheduled Events Fade into Obscurity

The biggest concern that has recently occurred for the Digimon Card Game is the lack of presence at recent conventions during the Summer. This includes Gamescom 2024 in Germany and Anime NYC, in which fans have encountered unexpected issues. The biggest issue for European players has been the announced Gamescom as a promotion originally indicated a promotion campaign for Digimon Liberator cards. The event promotion was revealed on August 1, but fans noticed a lack of presence and reacted to their ‘error’ announcement on social media.

“Correcting this at the 2nd day of the Event is hardly helping people like me who travelled to Gamescom just your Digimon booth. We sunk costs and time already, and at least taking addresses of people visiting the Bandai or Blackfire booth should be possible. Prove to us you care”

The Digimon Liberator Promo Cards were the main items fans and players wanted to obtain at events but struggled to find ways to obtain them.

“Please make sure to keep your website updated too. It would have been nice if you’d collect addresses and ship the cards at a later date out of respect to the Tamers that came all the to Gamescom mainly for Digimon TCG. To inform on the 2nd day of the event is just way too late..”

It’s insane that it took until Day 2 to fix this “error”, which has been extremely unpleasant for fans in Europe. The fact that it took until the actual event to correct the event suggests there is more at play than stated. Anime NYC featured the promotional event and presence for the Digimon Card Game but was extremely minimal. Considering how amazing Liberator has been, it’s a shame that its momentum is being dragged down in this manner.

Release Delays Continue to Occur

The consistent delays resume for boosters as Digimon Liberator featured releases affecting both Europe and the US. The English version of Extra Booster Digimon Liberator [EX07], Starter Deck Guardian Vortex [ST18] and Starter Deck Fable Waltz [ST19]. This includes a delayed announcement for Europe and the UK that set the release date for September 27 and across North America that changes the release to September 20.

Fans have been frustrated by the constant delays, which is even worse due to the big gap between the Japanese Version. Fans in the UK also have a longer wait compared to the US Tamers, which makes their growing upset worse. The Web Comic and Web Novel releases have kept people excited for the upcoming cards. However, frustration continues to drive fans to the edge as the delay affects the linked cards seen in the series.

Japan’s Fans Receive New Online Platform for Card Games

A newly released app brings a ray of hope for the Digimon Card Game as Bandai releases the Bandai Card Games Metaverse Lobby. The web-based platform features as an online venue that allows players to play online. The genius of the Metaverse Lobby is that it uses a player’s camera when two players enter a battle via a play table. This means that players can use their physical cards, which justifies creating your deck.

This is a fantastic feature that should be launched worldwide as it will allow players to connect wherever they are. There is so much potential such as expanding to a mixed reality headset, along with connecting players that are desperate to get the most out of their decks and collection. In addition, there is no better way for Digimon Card Game to be than a Digital World. A Video Game that allows players to experience Liberator in VR and on PC could also allow new players to obtain in a greater abundance.

It’s also clear that online events have a greater potential in areas such as within Europe. This can be seen in the comparison of local events compared to the online regionals hosted by organizers such as Raid’n’Trade. The November online regional is already fully booked, highlighting how accessible online events are. If a method could merge a Mixed Reality platform or a Liberator video game with online competitions and the Bandai+ App, this could be the formula that raises Digimon Card Game to the level fans desire.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
