Double Life is a women-led thriller from Paramount starring Javicia Leslie and Pascale Hutton. Leslie is perhaps most known as Ryan Wilder on CW’s Batwoman, where she took over the lead role after Ruby Rose detached from the series. In her new film, the two women team up with to find the person responsible for killing the man they both loved.
What Reboot Leslie Would Like to Join
We recently sat down with Javicia Leslie to discuss the film as well as a variety of other topics. Over the years, women’s empowerment has been a force in Hollywood. A field that was once primarily run by men is seeing a shift with more inclusion of strong females in title roles. Leslie would love to star in one of her own, adding that she’d also be interested in rebooting a particular film saga that she’d love to join.
“The great part about this journey, this acting journey, is that there are so many stories. It kinda makes it more fun when I just like allow whats to come to me to come to me…I do believe in manifestation so there are roles that I would love to be a part of… I love the story of Colombiana, they never really brought that back… I think finding another way to bring that kind of story out [I’d be interested in]… just like those strong women… bad ass, kick ass [films].”

For years, there have been rumors that a sequel to the 2011 hit would soon be seeing the light of day, but nothing official has ever been revealed.
She goes on to speak about other films of the same genre, those that see a female in the lead role kicking butt. Some films named dropped included Salt, led by Angelina Jolie, Lucy starring Scarlett Johanssen, and Aeon Flux with Charlize Theron.

On the topic of strong female leads, Javicia Leslie sheds light on a black female actress. She says, “You know who I think is underrated? Nicole Beharie. If you see pictures, you’ll know who she is. She was in the episode of Black Mirror with Anthony Mackie.” If you are on social media heavily, then it is likely you’ve encountered a scene from the episode she starred in. The context of the viral conversation surrounds a married couple out for dinner for their anniversary when the wife confronts her husband about his lack of affection. Beharie’s emotional performance was so heartfelt and raw, it is no wonder she caught the attention of many, Leslie included.
Double Life is now available on digital.
