Powerpuff Girls are back with much more than “Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice.”
That was part of the opening line for the classic Cartoon Network series, The Powerpuff Girls, and the small superheroes are returning to the screen on the CW network. The reboot will bring Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup back together – but they are no longer the cute little heroines of days past and each have their own personal struggles and challenges to deal with.

The Powerpuff Girls reboot was announced last year and will be produced by Greg Berlanti, who has been at the helm of plenty of CW shows like The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl. Who will be portraying the adult-sized girls? Thanks to Deadline, we now have information about the actresses taking on the colorful heroines, and some of the details of the new characters. Let’s take a look.
Powerpuff Girls Are Here Again
First up is Blossom, the former leader will be played by Chloe Bennet, Fans will remember seeing Bennet on such shows as ABC’s “Agents of SHIELD”. Blossom is described as now having gained many advanced degrees because of her drive for perfection. But now she is dealing with the trauma of being a young superhero and her anxiety and reclusiveness. She is looking to be a hero once more but her way.
Next up is Bubbles, who will played by Dove Cameron. Cameron made her way on screen as the title character in Disney Channel’s “Liv and Maddie” which gave her a daytime Emmy and has spend a lot of time working with the network. The description for Bubbles is that while she was a child she was considered America’s Sweetheart and her adorableness hid a toughness and wit unexpected.
This description of Bubbles looks to continue some of the character issues seen in the classic cartoon such as the short “Bubblevicious” that focused on Bubbles’ toughness. Bubbles in the reboot is now looking to capture fame again while saving the world.
Finally is Buttercup, who is “The Toughest fighter” will be played by Yana Perrault. This project will bring Parrault and Chloe Bennet back together as they worked on Agents of Shield but on the show as enemies and now will be on the same team with this show. Perrault has also been spending time on Broadway with the musical “Jagged Little Pill” and “Hamilton”.
Buttercup is described as trying to shed the tough girl image from her younger days and seeking a life of anonymity. Other than that nothing else has been shared on what this adult buttercup will be dealing with.
No word has been announced yet on whether the show will bring a live version of Professor Utonium, the creator and father to the Powerpuff Girls. It will be interesting to see what the show will do with other characters from the cartoon such as The Mayor, his assistant Ms. Bellum and popular supervillain Mojo JoJo.
