Much like the titular monster at its core, the Alien franchise has stayed alive for decades. Sequels, prequels, video games, crossovers, comic books, and more have kept the franchise afloat, but the one project that garnered the most fan interest never even got off the ship: Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5.
Blomkamp recently released concept art for his film, which would have been a direct sequel to James Cameron’s Aliens. The film planned to ignore the other sequels and brought back Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and Michael Biehn’s Corporal Hicks. Fan favorite character Newt (who died in between Aliens and Alien 3) would have returned as well, and we would have seen a 4-armed Xenomorph.
New Alien 5 Concept Art
We also know that Alien 5 would have been called Alien: Red Harvest and featured a new android character (a staple in the series). While the project has long been taken off the table, the concept art gives us an idea of what Blomkamp was going for.
Sci-fi action is Blomkamp’s bread and butter, as seen in his previous efforts with District 9, Elysium, and Chappie. While the latter two received mixed reactions from critics and audiences, Red Harvest potentially could have breathed new life into his career and the dogged franchise.
