A second season for The Bad Batch has just been announced!

The Bad Batch is coming back to Disney+ for a second season.

Lucasfilm is continually working toward major expansions within the Star Wars universe, which has kept up the excitement by adding serialized TV shows to add to the overarching narrative. While much of the focus has been on live-action entries like The Mandalorian and the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett, the animated realm is bringing big things as well with Season 1 of The Bad Batch.

The Bad Batch came as a direct follow-up to Season 7 of The Clone Wars, which included a four-episode arc centering on the Bad Batch team of Hunter, Tech, Echo, Crosshair, and Wrecker. These enhanced clones ended up on the run from the Empire after Order 66, even losing Crosshair early on due to his inhibitor chip, but gaining a new ally in the young Omega in the process.

Jumping through space from planet to planet while encountering the galaxy’s worst like Cad Bane and Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand, this team has had quite the run in its first set of episodes before the two-part season finale arrives on Disney+. On an even more exciting front, news has just come about what The Bad Batch‘s fate holds for the imminent future.

Disney+ has officially confirmed that Lucasfilm’s The Bad Batch will continue into Season 2 after the Season 1 finale airs tonight on the streaming network. The official statement read as follows:

Today, Disney+ announced the second season of the critically acclaimed animated series “Star Wars: The Bad Batch,” which will launch in 2022.  “Fans have enthusiastically embraced the action and drama of “Star Wars: The Bad Batch,” and we are excited to see the Star Wars animated universe continue to expand on Disney+,” said Michael Paull, President of Disney+ and ESPN+. “As the dedicated streaming home for the Star Wars franchise, we can’t wait for the second season of this fan-favorite animated series.”

Commenting on the second season announcement, executive producer Dave Filoni said:

“The entire Lucasfilm Animation team and I would like to thank Disney+ and our fans for the opportunity to continue telling the story of the Bad Batch.”

Considering that The Clone Wars had quite the successful six-season run even before being renewed for a seventh season after a six-year gap, it seems only fitting that The Bad Batch will see something of a similar streak of success.

With 14 of Season 1’s 16 episodes already having aired, fans are still looking forward to seeing how the team’s story ends in the two-part finale. This may even include some kind of cliffhanger ending now that the show is confirmed to get a second season, opening the door for quite the wild ending over the next couple of weeks.

The Bad Batch

The Bad Batch is available to screen in its entirety on the Disney Plus streaming service. With The Bad Batch likely to continue sometime next year, the wait for its return will hopefully not feel quite as bad with the knowledge that the story isn’t over.
