Earlier today, Bob Iger hosted the company’s earning call and reported on various projects that are ongoing throughout the company. One of the primary focuses was the early success of Disney’s streaming service Disney+. The company has announced that the streaming service is up to 26.5 million subscribers since launch with new users growing every day. With the news of Disney+ growth, the focus turned to the upcoming Marvel series and The Mandalorian season 2.
It is no news that Marvel is expanding their Phase 4 slate onto the small screen, and with the success and high-quality of The Mandalorian debut season, the excitement has grown. Now, fans can direct that excitement to expected release windows. First is The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, premiering in August. That will be followed by the sophomore season of The Mandalorian in October, and finally followed by WandaVision, closing out the year in December.
Disney+ Flows Into Phase 4
The Marvel release dates help flesh out what the launch year of Phase 4 will look like with it’s new look.
- May 2020 : Black Widow
- August 2020 : Falcon and The Winter Solider
- November 2020 : The Eternals
- December 2020 : WandaVision
Iger also took the time to announce that there are “seven other Marvel series in various stages of development”. Currently, She-Hulk, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and What If? have been announced, leaving two future announcements being kept secret. One final little nugget that Iger snuck in was that spin-off series are being considered for certain of The Mandalorian supporting characters.

WandaVision
Marvel Studios’ “WandaVision” blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany)—two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems. The new series is directed by Matt Shakman; Jac Schaeffer is head writer. Debuts on Disney+ this year.
