Everyone’s favorite video game treasure hunter making his first live-action appearance when Uncharted hits the big screen.
When it was announced that Spider-Man star Tom Holland was casted as Nathan Drake based from the iconic Uncharted video game franchise, it brought excitement and doubt among fans. But even though it seemed like a fun project to film, the project actually took a toll on Holland’s physical health. According to a recent interview with GQ, the actor explained that his experience filming Uncharted almost broke him.
Uncharted Territory For Tom Holland
Holland revealed in the interviews the intense schedule of shooting the live action Uncharted as the film. Holland also explained how playing Nathan Drake affected him physically. Holland explained “that the film absolutely broke me”.
He further explained that “I never realized how lucky I am that Spider-Man wears a mask, because when he’s bouncing around and flying from buildings, that’s all CG. In Uncharted it’s just me in a Henley and cargo pants,” adding “I was going to the gym in the morning like, ‘Oh, my God, I’ve must have torn something in my leg,’ and the guys were like, ‘You haven’t, you’re just tired and you’re getting older.'”
During the interview, Holland shared his experience training with co-star Mark Wahlberg, who he described as twice his size. Holland also explained that Wahlberg prompted him to spend the next five months eating healthy and training while in lockdown during the early months of the Pandemic. “When I got back on set, the first thing he [Wahlberg] said to me was, ‘Wow, somebody has been training.'” Clearly, Wahlberg was indeed a mentor figure during Holland’s training for the film.
After hearing the latest comments, we can see how physically demanding training for Uncharted really was. Adding to that, Holland had to film and train for Spider-Man: No Way Home after wrapping up Uncharted. But still it shows the hard work and determination that Holland went through in bringing Nathan Drake to life for fans around the world. Hopefully Holland’s adaptation of Drake will become a treasured fortune to those who watched Uncharted.
