A new report indicates that Marvel Comics’ Red Hulk may join the Marvel Cinematic Universe sooner than you may be expecting. Hulk Smash! That’s what we will assuredly hear in the upcoming She-Hulk Disney+ show, the question is who will be saying it?
According to a new report from Geeks Worldwide, William Hurt might be returning as his character General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. The MCU’s Secretary of State, has a longstanding rivalry towards Bruce Banner and his gamma-powered alter ego, The Hulk. They were first seen on-screen together in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk and last shared the screen in Captain America: Civil War.

Now while we can’t confirm for sure that Red Hulk will make a smashing entrance in She-Hulk. We do know that Emmy winner Jessica Gao (Rick and Morty) is serving as showrunner on the streaming series. She-Hulk was announced by Kevin Feige last year alongside Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, and Moon Knight. The She-Hulk show is in the midst of pre-production and is looking to shoot in the second half of this year.
RED HULK’S BRIEF HISTORY
If the report holds up, Hurt’s Ross might be transforming into the crimson behemoth in the upcoming streaming show. The Red Hulk’s first appearance was in 2008’s Hulk issue #1, by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness He was initially known as the mysterious character, Rulk. This new character would proceed to cause more destruction than the Green Goliath himself. He even ends up murdering The Hulk’s arch enemy, Abomination.
Rulk’s identity as General Ross was finally revealed in 2010, during the World War Hulk storyline. After joining the Avengers, Rulk forms his own dark mirror of the team, known as the Thunderbolts, in the 2012 Marvel NOW! relaunch. Ross’ rumored addition to cast also continues to substantiate rumors that the Thunderbolts will have a presence on Disney+.

It will be interesting to discover how Marvel Studios intends to adapt the character for live-action. With Ross inadvertently helping create the Hulk and the Abomination in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, his own transformation into the Red Hulk could be the result of continued genetic gamma ray tampering. Only time will tell…
