Anthony Mackie said that he was on the set of Wakanda Forever while being interviewed by E! News on the red carpet at the Grammys over the weekend. He expressed his excitement for the Black Panther sequel having “witnessed” the making of the film firsthand.

“I’m very excited to say that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever just wrapped filming. It’s gonna be amazing, it’s going to be spectacular. I am not [in it], but I’ve seen—I’ve been there, I’ve witnessed. I’m very excited for everybody to see Black Panther 2. It’s in the can, it’s in the coming out, it’s done.”

Is Anthony Mackie in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever or Not?

If your face looks like mine at the moment it’s because we’re thinking the same thing, “something seems strangely suspicious”. I’m curious to know why Mackie immediately proceeded to discuss Black Panther: Wakanda Forever when he was asked about his next Marvel installment. Then he was asked if he was in the film, and he stuttered and fumbled over his words before denying his involvement.

It wouldn’t be too big of a surprise if we ultimately see Anthony Mackie make a cameo appearance in Wakanda Forever. Let’s not forget that Bucky requested Sam’s fancy vibranium suit and wings from the Dora Milaje in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier so it would be reasonable to assume that there’s a scene in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever where Sam thanks Shuri for his Captain America gear, pays his respects, or something along that nature.

In Anthony Mackie’s defense, it’s not uncommon for Marvel actors to visit sets of movies they’re not involved in. Willem Dafoe was on the set of Spider-man: No Way Home, for instance, wait, never mind. All jokes aside, Marvel actors do occasionally visit the sets of movies not involving them, so it’s possible that Anthony Mackie was being truthful when he denied his involvement in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. He may have simply fumbled over his words for no particular reason, these things tend to happen to the best of us. He could just be excited to see the Black Panther sequel like the rest of us.

Official plot details are still unknown, though we do have our suspicions due to strong speculations. We do know with utmost assurance that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will honor the late Chadwick Boseman while continuing the legacy of his character, T’Challa.
