Former WWE Champion Big E revealed how he is healing from his broken neck and how much longer he may be out of action during a recent interview with These Urban Times.
Big E has been out of action since March when he was accidentally injured during a match. While taking an Overhead Belly-To-Belly Suplex from Ridge Holland, Holland and Big E failed to get enough height and Big E landed on the top of his head.
FEELING GOOD AND NO LASTING EFFECTS
The botch where Big E broke his neck looked really bad, and it came as no surprise that the former WWE Champion suffered a serious injury from the move. The resulting injury was a broken C1 and C6 vertebrae. However, he suffered no displacement, no spinal cord damage, no ligament damage, and didn’t require surgery.
Since then we have not seen a lot of Big E in WWE. He has been actively working for the WWE, but it has been behind the scenes. Recently, he helped WWE promote events and worked at some WWE tryouts.

While promoting WWE’s upcoming holiday show in Atlanta, Georgia, Big E spoke to These Urban Times, and he shared an update on rehabbing from his broken neck:
“So I have to get some more scans. The one-year mark is in March, and then we’ll see how everything’s looking. But we’ll see from there. It’s my C1 that’s broken in two spots, so obviously I want to be very smart about that. I was very fortunate, so I just want to make sure I’m making the best decision.”

Big E also went on to say he feels good and is not dealing with any lasting nerve or strength issues from the accident. However, he wants to be cautious and make sure his neck is 100 percent before he jumps back into the ring and competes at the level of a WWE Superstar.
Before getting injured, Big E was part of one of the top tag teams in WWE, The New Day. They (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) are currently the NXT Tag Team Champions. He is an eight-time tag team champion. However, the peak of his career has to be what he did shortly before getting injured.
THE ERA OF BIG E ENDED TOO SOON
On Sept. 13, 2021, Big E successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Bobby Lashley to become the WWE Champion for the first time in his career. He held onto the championship for 110 days, and it looked like he was finally put into the main title picture. However, he ran into a wrecking ball and a dream crusher named Brock Lesnar who pinned him for the championship at WWE Day 1 earlier in January. Lesnar is really good at crushing championship dreams.
Lesnar won the title from Big E in a Fatal 5-Way match that also featured Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley. Big E later rejoined New Day after being separated during the WWE Draft. He wasn’t too far removed from the title picture and getting put back into a title match. It would not have been surprising if he was about to be placed back into the title picture. However, the injury ended that dream, at least for the time being.

Based on his comments, the former champion doesn’t seem too far away from returning to the ring. Once he does return, he will certainly be part of New Day, but a singles run for some solo titles would not be surprising.
What did you think of Big E’s title reign? Would you like to see him get another WWE Championship reign or a Universal Championship reign? Do you think he would be a good option to take the title off of Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns? When he returns, do you think Big E will stay with The New Day? Leave a comment below and let us know if you think Big E should turn on New Day and turn heel once he returns.Â
