It’s time to spin a new web, because Spider-Man 3 is coming.
Spider-Man has had quite the year in 2019. He fought against Thanos with the Avengers in Avengers: Endgame, had his own solo adventure with his friends in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and then came the dramatic news that he would be booted from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After a lot of back and forth between Sony and Disney, a new deal was struck and Spider-man was confirmed to be staying in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the time being. So what comes next? We finally have some news about Spider-Man 3, the excitable young superhero’s third solo outing.
According to Comicbook.com, production on the yet untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 will begin July of this year and continue into November. Filming locations for Spider-Man: Far From Home included New York, London, Prague, Venice, and Spain. Meanwhile, Spider-Man 3 will reportedly be filming in Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, and most interestingly, Iceland. The last MCU movie to be filmed in Iceland was Thor: Dark World, and it’s interesting to think about Iceland in the context of a Spider-man movie.
Kraven the Hunter Joins Spider-Man 3?
It’s much too early to have any plot details about the movie, but some outlets are already theorizing that the next villain Spider-Man may have to face off with will be Kraven the Hunter. In the comics, Kraven has superhuman physical abilities after ingesting a potion made from jungle herbs. The potion makes him more resistant to injury and enhances his sight, hearing, and sense of smell. Even without the potion, Kraven would be a force to be reckoned with as he is a gifted athlete, tactician, hunter, and hand-to-hand combatant.

There are still several months left before the movie starts filming, so details aren’t likely to be released for some time. Once casting announcements start coming out they will either help support or debunk the Kraven theory. Thus far it seems that Marvel has been trying to bring in villains that haven’t been utilized as much in other Spider-Man films. Until we know more, the fans are having fun theorizing on what will come next for our friendly neighborhood Spider-man.
What’s Next for Peter Parker?
The last we saw of Spider-man, he was facing a new chapter in his life: having his identity revealed by Mysterio in a video that was publicly broadcast. We have yet to see a Spider-Man who has had his identity revealed in such a public way in previous Spider-Man movies. (The closest we got was in Spider-Man 2 with Tobey Maguire, when he saves the passengers of a subway train. The passengers inside witness him without his mask on but collectively decide to protect his identity).
Peter Parker is a vastly different character from Tony Stark, who revealed his identity from the very first Iron Man movie. It’ll be interesting to see not only how he navigates a world where his identity is no longer a secret, but how he does it while J. Jonah Jameson Jr. (played once again by J.K. Simmons) openly antagonizes him with the Daily Bugle.
Spider-Man 3 will hit theaters on July 16, 2021, and it cannot come soon enough. Before that, though, fans have Black Widow and Eternals to look forward to.
