Academy Award winner Taika Waititi and Jude Law are in talks to team up for a new Showtime series called, The Auteur.
You may know him from Thor: Ragnarok or The Mandalorian. However, Taika Waititi is now a household name after his Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplay for Jo Jo Rabbit, at this year’s Academy Awards. The acclaimed director has some big projects on his plate, including the highly anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder, which has had the internet ablaze since its announcement in last year’s San Diego Comic Con. But, it seems that Waititi is even more ambitious than we may have previously thought possible.

According to a report from Collider, Waititi and Jude Law are teaming up for The Auteur, which is a developing limited series for Showtime and their streaming service. The two are currently in negotiations right now with the network and it looks as if the project is indeed moving forward.
The Auteur’s Story Details
Following the release of Collider’s report, they followed it up with a confirmation from Showtime. The cable network provided the following story details for The Auteur:
The Auteur is a gonzo horror-comedy, a twisted romance, and a glamorous, high wire act of biting satire. Law will play a film producer who, desperate to make a great horror movie following a massive flop, accidentally traps his production on a backlot with a serial killer.
Waititi is set to direct and co-write the series, alongside Peter Warren (Ghost Team). He will also serve as an executive producer with Law, who will star in the horror-comedy.

Showtime may be losing some of its heavy hitters this year, so it’s going to need some more original shows such as the upcoming Halo project and Mr. Ripley. The streaming wars between Disney+ and Netflix are certainly heating up, so they’re going to need some more quality programming.
Besides being a award-winning director, Waititi’s also dabbled as an actor. He has recently played IG-11 in The Mandalorian and Korg in Avengers: Endgame. Next he will be reteaming with Ryan Reynolds in the action comedy Free Guy, after the two first starred together in Warner Bros’ Green Lantern.

As for Jude Law, he recently played Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Yon-Rogg in Marvel’s Captain Marvel. Law currently stars opposite Blake Lively in The Rhythm Section and he’s expected to be seen in the third installments of both, the Fantastic Beasts and Sherlock Holmes franchises. In addition, he will also be starring in Francis Ford Coppola‘s long-in-development, passion project Megalopolis.
