This month just keeps getting worse for Samoa Joe. Last week he was injured while filming a commercial and now he is suspended for violating WWE’s Wellness Policy. Yesterday WWE released a press release on the suspension.
WWE has suspended Nuufolau Seanoa (Samoa Joe) for 30 days effective Monday, February 24, for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.
WWE Statement
Wellness Policy Suspension Is Not Unusual
it’s not a rare occurrence for Superstars to violate the wellness policy. As stated, this is the first time it has happened to Joe. When something like this happens the first thought is drugs or steroids, but that’s extremely rare. Typically it is marijuana or a prescription drug violation.
However, this has happened at least three times, that I can recall, and I bet is the reason for this is a paperwork mishap. What happened to previous wrestlers in violation, such as Paige, Eva Marie, and Adam Rose, is they have a prescription for say adderall and WWE knows that. They will need a doctor’s note every so many days. The Superstar will present the note every time for years, but if they miss their reporting, it will result in an instant suspension.

I think it’s the wrong way to handle the situation to put the Superstar on blast,t when the WWE knows they have a prescription. Everyone immediately thinks they are doing hardcore drugs, but they’re on some medication for allergies or something.
Could It Be Related To Samoa Joe’s Commercial Shoot Injury?
However, another possible reason may have to do with his injury from filming a commercial. Joe could be on pain medication and he has or doesn’t have a prescription and tests positive for it. The annoying part about these types of things is WWE will not release what the Superstar tested positive for. If the fans get any news on why the Superstar got suspended, its because the Superstar posted about it on their Twitter. I checked Joe’s Twitter and he doesn’t have anything on the suspension.
Hopefully Joe Will Get Help If He Needs It
The good news is if Joe has a substance abuse problem WWE typically will pay for the rehab program. However, I really hope that isn’t the case. Joe is at the tailend of his career and I would hate to see him waste his remaining years battling addiction.
If you want to know more about WWE’s Substance Abuse guidelines I found the page which outlines them. It’s a lot of technical terms and is not for the general public, but at the least it will give a better idea of what WWE’s regulations are.

If we hear anymore on Joe and what he tested positive for we’ll let you know. We here hope and pray for Joe and a speedy recovery from his injury and that this suspension is a misunderstanding.
