Kro May Have Been Revealed As The Eternals Villain Thanks To Funko Pop

The Eternals is Marvel Studios’ first film lined up for release post Black Widow, and some of its characters are on their way to Funko Pop fame. First up: Kro!

The eponymous group is an immensely powerful race of immortal beings created by The Celestials with various superpowers who have lived on earth in secret for thousands of years. The film features a massive ensemble cast featuring names like Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden and Kit Harington, although he’s playing a character called The Black Knight who is not an Eternal.

Director Chloe Zhao is behind the camera in her first time tackling a major Hollywood blockbuster. Could her work on bringing this Jack-Kirby created fantasy epic turn her into Marvel’s next Taika Waititi?

Kro of The Eternals

The film is currently slated for release on November 6 of 2020, although it is entirely plausible that COVID-19 could push that back. Should it keep its current release date, we’ll learn all of the secrets of The Eternals late this fall, but until then, many details are still under wraps. We don’t even know who the villain is, although many have speculated that it could be Barry Keoghan’s Druig, an Eternal who often plays the bad guy in the source material.

Who Is Kro?

A leaked list of upcoming Funko Pops may have revealed that one of the movie’s villains could be the Deviant known as The Warlord Kro. The list came courtesy of Pop O’Clock on Twitter. Kro is a rather unique member of the Deviant race, the traditionally villainous and consistently monstrous counterparts to The Eternals.

The Deviants and The Eternals were both created by the mysterious space gods known as The Celestials when they decided to play around with the genes of early humanity. The Eternals were the favored creation and were far more powerful than the Deviants, who were considered to be a genetic failure by their creators.

Kro is unique among The Deviants, as he has several attributes that are classically Eternal as opposed to Deviant, specifically his immortality, incredible physical durability and mental fortitude. In the comics he is depicted as a humanoid figure most often clad in pink. That being said, he has some minor shapeshifting abilities, so he can alter his appearance easily.

Kevin Feige also revealed at CCXP that “…We will see Deviants that will look unlike anything we’ve seen in the comics. This is a new form of Deviants that we’re revealing in the movie.” If we put two and two together, it’s apparent that The Warlord Kro may have a completely new look in the MCU. Hopefully these Funko Pops are confirmed in the near future, ideally with some official photos of Kro.

It’s worth adding that even though a character is included in a batch of Funko Pops, that doesn’t necessarily guarantee that the character will be in the upcoming film. Toy releases have been known to foreshadow the appearance of a certain character on the big screen only for their tease to prove completely inconsequential at the end of the day. Hopefully the tease of Kro turns out to be more substantial.

The villain could be Kro, it could be Druig, it could be The Celestials or it could be someone else totally unexpected like Lia McHugh’s Sprite. What this Funko leak tells us is that Kro has a better chance of appearing in the film than he did previously, and that’s exciting news for fans of the comics.

As The Eternals continues to finish production and begin it’s promotional campaign, more character reveals will certainly begin to trickle through. The Eternals has the potential to be a second Guardians Of The Galaxy type of success story for the MCU. Can Kevin Feige and Chloe Zhao turn Dane Whitman and Sersi, and Kro into household names?
