FanimeCon isn’t happening this year. In a statement on its website, the safety of its con-goers and staff was being worked on behind the scenes and they didn’t know how to proceed. With the help of their management, though, they came up with a solution that would hopefully suffice. They’re moving to next year.
The event was meant to happen May 21 through the 25 this year, but with COVID-19’s rapid outbreak, this event seemed imminent to cancel. They did lay out what would happen to those who pre-registered for the event and booked a hotel room in the block for the event. If you pre-registered, your ticket will be instantly transferred to 2021’s FanimeCon register and you’ll be good to go. If you booked a room, your room will be dropped without any sort of penalty on your end.
FanimeCon For The Future
They go on to thank everyone involved in bringing this now-deferred event to life. This includes its volunteers, the people who made plans to go, its vendors, sponsors, guests, and more. Before cancelation, Fanime had voice actors Blake Shepard, Yuriko Yamaguchi, and Erika Harlacher as guests. Cosplayers VampyBitMe and Aicosu and author Gilles Poitras were also set to attend.
COVID-19 has really caused a hit to the entertainment industry. From theaters shutting down to movies delaying release or even halting production, a lot has happened. The convention isn’t the first to see cancelation due to the virus.
Many conventions decided to cancel or delay, these include the likes of ComicCon, VidCon, Coachella, E3, and more have decided to not hold the events as the virus spreads.
