It looks like the world of Twilight is getting ready to enter the shelves of bookstores (whatever ones are left) once again with Midnight Sun.
Stephanie Meyer, author of the Twilight book series has announced that she is publishing a new novel set in that world. The fifth book in the series, Midnight Sun, will tell the story of Twilight in a new perspective by following Edward Cullen, not Bella.
The announcement was made on Good Morning America, as well as released on Meyer’s website and social media. This new story was supposed to follow the final book in the series, Breaking Dawn, but it never happened. It seems Meyer’s release of Midnight Sun may be a way to reignite the love of the vampire romance genre. The hope is Midnight Sun will recapture lightning in a bottle by publishing this novel twelve years after the final book and movie was released.

In her video, Meyer says, “It’s a crazy time right now and I wasn’t sure if it was the right time to put this book out but some of you have been waiting for just so, so long, it didn’t seem fair to make you wait anymore.” Which means that in all the years since the original release date in 2008, Meyer has been silently waiting and working to bring the story of Twilight back for a new generation. This should give long-time fans of the original series new reason for excitement, new action, and new memories. Meyer also had to shut down the novel being released before due to the 1st chapter being leaked.
How Midnight Sun Will Stand Out
When talking about the reasoning behind reviving the series and revisiting the franchise Meyer said, “Though I didn’t have time to work on it right away, the idea of letting Edward have his chance to speak stuck with me.” She wants to get a more in-depth look at Edward Cullen and it seems that living life has given Meyer all the spark she needed to return to this project stronger than before. Hopefully, the Midnight Sun novel gives readers a beautifully written story that will go back into the world we thought had taken its bow and retired.

The big question that arises from this news is if a movie adaptation will follow behind. If the movie is made, who knows if Robert Pattinson would be interested in going back to the role. He has changed his tune about the experience, going from hating the role of Edward to appreciating the opportunity. Aside from that, his dance card seems to be full with taking on the lead as the Caped Crusader in The Batman and getting back to work on that project once everything settles down a bit with COVID-19.
