One of the most prolific professional boxers, Mike Tyson, recently had himself a resurgence on the internet.

The 57-year old former undisputed champion posted a video online in which he declares “I’m back” as he shows off his incredible hand speed and terrifying punching power. Since then, his name has been invoked by everyone from UFC playboy Conor McGregor to former Tyson rival Evander Holyfield. However, since Tyson revealed his intentions to potentially get back in the ring, nothing official has been announced.

That is, until now. During Wednesday night’s broadcast of AEW Dynamite, announcers Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, and Excalibur, broke the internet. As they hyped the TNT Championship tournament finals between Cody Rhodes and Lance Archer, a graphic appeared on-screen featuring Mike Tyson’s face.

In 1998, during the buildup to WrestleMania 14, WWE pulled off one of its greatest mainstream achievements by signing Mike Tyson to a short-term contract. The heavyweight champ got into wild, pull-apart brawls with Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin, placing the WWE firmly in the normal news cycle for months. Switching allegiances from Degeneration-X to Steve Austin’s camp, Tyson helped create one of Wrestlemania’s greatest moments when he laid out HBK and helped crown the new WWE World Champion in the Texas Rattlesnake. Tyson was paid $3 million for his involvement.

In the years since, Tyson was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2012 and hosted an episode of Monday Night Raw in 2010. His love and admiration of pro wrestlers has been well-documented for the last two decades.

Up next, Tyson will make his debut in All Elite Wrestling next Saturday at the promotion’s annual Double or Nothing PPV. “The Baddest Man on the Planet” will be tasked with bestowing the AEW TNT Championship to either Cody Rhodes or Lance Archer. However, the powers-that-be at AEW are seemingly aware of the goldmine they sit upon and will likely plan for Tyson to be more involved than that in hopes of getting some mainstream media coverage.

What do you think? What role do you hope Mike Tyson might play in AEW? Will this be a one-time appearance or will a relationship form between the two? Knockout those comments and let us know your thoughts on social media!
