Timothy Olyphant will be in the second season of The Mandalorian as an undisclosed character.
It looks like another name has been added to The Mandalorian’s second season. THR is reporting Timothy Olyphant most recently known for the Netflix horror comedy Santa Clarita Diet has been added to the cast. Olyphant’s role is being kept close to the vest, but it should be exciting to see who he ends up playing. News about the upcoming season of The Mandalorian has been slowly coming out and so far, it has led to some exciting reveals.

Timothy Olyphant isn’t new to the western genre, having played a sheriff on the HBO western Deadwood. He also starred as a no-nonsense lawman on the FX series Justified, which ran for six seasons. This time there’ll be a science-fiction twist, but Olyphant should be a fun addition to the Star Wars world. The question now is will Olyphant be playing an all new character, or as THR put it a “returning favorite in a new guise”? Could he be bringing another animated character to the world of live action?

It looks like the new season is shaping up to have some interesting stories with fan favorite characters returning or being seen as live action for the first time. Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) will be appearing as her animated Star Wars charcter Bo-Katan. Sackhoff has voiced Bo-Katan on the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. This will be the first time Bo-Katan is seen as live action and hopefully she will reveal some important Mandalorian history and how Moff Gideon got a hold of the darksaber.
Michael Biehn, star of popular science fiction movies The Terminator and Alien, will be appearing in the second season. Biehn will be playing a bounty hunter from the Mandalorian’s past. Pedro Pascal will obviously be reprising his role as the Mandalorian bounty hunter, Din Djarin and Giancarlo Esposito will return as Moff Gideon. Gina Carano and Carl Weathers are expected to return as their first season characters Cara Dune and Greef Carga, Djarin’s allies who helped him protect “The Child” aka Baby Yoda.

Rosario Dawson will be appearing as fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka, like Bo-Katan, will be seen as a live-action character for the first time. Ahsoka gained a following as Anakin Skywalker’s padawan on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and rebel spy on Star Wars: Rebels. Temuera Morrison will be playing Boba Fett, having played Jango Fett in Attack Of The Clones with Boba being Jango’s clone whom he was raising as a son. There is also speculation that Morrison could be appearing as Captain Rex, the fan favorite clone trooper and friend of Ahsoka from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.
Peyton Reed, the director of Ant-Man and Ant-Man & The Wasp, will be directing in the second season as will Robert Rodriguez, director of Alita: Battle Angel and Sin City. Dave Filoni, who also serves as a writer and executive producer on the show, will be returning to direct an episode. Filoni directed two episodes in the first season, the premiere and episode five. Filoni also served as supervising director on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and created Star Wars: Rebels. It should be interesting to see some of his characters from the animated shows being brought into the world of live action.

The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau will also be directing in season two. Favreau didn’t direct in the first season due to his time directing Disney’s live action Lion King. Favreau also hosts the docu-series Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. Favreau takes fans behind the scenes of the creation of The Mandalorian. With round table discussions, hosted by Favreau, with cast, directors, and other crew.
The Mandalorian wrapped production on season two in in March and it looks like a third season is already in the works. The second season of The Mandalorian is expected to premier on Disney+ in October. What do you think about Timothy Olyphant joining The Mandalorian? Who do you hope Olyphant will play?
