In the almost 54 years that Star Trek has been gracing our TV screens, the franchise has been able to find many new and creative ways to change things up every once and awhile. This trailer for is definitely no exception.
CBS All Access has already picked up the series for two seasons and will be the service’s first original animated series. This will also be the service’s third Star Trek series, joining the ranks of Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek: Picard.

While Lower Decks isn’t the first Star Trek series to be animated, it is the first series to take part in the adult animation genre similar to shows such as Rick and Morty as well as Futurama.
Star Trek Lower Decks shows off some of Starfleet’s lesser important crew members and their wacky adventures that ensue.
When series creator Mike McMahan pitched the series he said the following about the inspiration for these unlikely protagonists:
“I want to do a show about the people who put the yellow cartridge in the food replicator so a banana can come out the other end.”

When the trailer released for Lower Decks is is definitely safe to say that it left fans polarized.

The first season of Star Trek Lower Decks is set to debut August 6th, 2020 on CBS All Access.
