In a recent interview, Zack Snyder talked about where his Justice League fits in the continuity of DC Extended Universe. He also teased that his cut of the movie might be longer than he expected and revealed new footage might be coming this week.
With Zack Snyder’s Justice League finally coming to HBO Max in 2021, one might wonder where does the new cut of the film might fall in the DC’s cinematic universe continuity. In an interview with Beyond the Trailer, the filmmaker revealed that his vision of the movie might exists outside of continuity. In fact, Snyder even made sure to consider the idea that his version of the Justice League could technically take place in its own separate universe.
“I believe that it really starts to represent its own path. It’s kind of separate now from what I’d say the DC Cinematic Universe is in-continuity. It’s divergent in that way and I think that’s a good thing. The power of DC and one of its cool strengths is its multiverse concept and where they put filmmakers first and go ‘We want to hear your individual voices.
Take these characters and do a run and show us what you would do with a run in the sense of traditional comic book writing,’ so I think that that is a cool and amazing canvas. For me, I think Justice League…you know, I’ve heard some someone say like ‘Oh, so you’re entering the SnyderVerse now.'”
That SnyderVerse, of course, would be made up of Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Zack Snyder’s Justice League the three movies Snyder directed for WB and DC. He also promised that there is continuity across his three movies and his main focus is to satisfy the both narrative structures of Man of Steel and BvS, and to continue that story which his fans loved. So this means with the Snyder cut it will form a sort of trilogy, namely the ‘Snyder Trilogy’.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League May Have A Longer Runtime
Apparently, the Snyder cut will be much longer than expected regardless of what form it ends up taking. Snyder teased that currently, he suspects the runtime of the “Snyder cut” can be over 214 minutes long. Justice League’s runtime has been a hot topic lately, which is almost as fabricated as everything else involved with the film’s production.
Previously it was rumored that Snyder had presented a cut of Justice League to WB executives which was three-and-half hours long, possibly an assembly cut of Justice League, which is the total amount of footage in a movie that is eventually cut down to a theatrical runtime. However, Zack Snyder himself clarified that his assembly cut of Justice League was five hours long.
In the interview Snyder recalled, “I have famously teased the runtime at… 214 minutes… Now in its current state, it’s going to end up being longer than that yet. So exciting to bring all this new material to the fans – they get to see all these crazy and awesome new sequences, and I think that’s going to be really exciting for everyone.”
It’s not surprising to hear that the version coming to HBO Max next year is over 214 minutes (or 3 hours 34 minutes). One question that arose back when the Snyder cut was announced in May is, in which format the cut will be released. Would it be better as a film or a miniseries, it is still not announced yet. Currently the director is working on the editing process of the film from his home.
Fans will have to wait until 2021 to see the final output when it premieres on HBO Max, but until then the director will be giving few tastes of it to hungry fans to build-up further excitement. A teaser has been released recently and on top of that, fans will get a chance to hear more about this movie during the global DC Fandom event on August 22. But we don’t have to wait till next month as Zack Snyder is participating in a panel at the online Justice Con event this Saturday, July 25th.
Justice Con is also happening this weekend alongside Comic-Con@Home. Snyder has also teased that he might reveal a new clip from the film at the panel along with other small news that is sure to excite fans.
“I may show a clip. And it is a small clip,” Snyder has teased. “It may be a small clip, And also maybe there’s another tiny little announcement, just a little thing, for the fans. The clip is…that’s gonna be fun.”
Can the another announcement be the release date or confirmation of the format wheteher it will be a movie or series? To know the answer tune in for Justice Con. You can hear more details from the filmmaker by watching the interview below:
