The Illuminerdi’s Top 10 Red Rangers

The Illuminerdi has compiled a list of our Top Ten Red Rangers throughout the run of Power Rangers.

5. Scott Truman (RPM)

At the halfway point, and it’s time to “Get in Gear” with Scott at number five on our list.

Scott was always living in his older brother’s shadow. Once he became Ranger Series Red, he took the role of Red Ranger very seriously and always made sure that the team had the upper hand. He always wanted to show his father how good he was and wanted him to be proud of him. He would get that at the end of RPM as he was asked to lead the Eagle Squad, replacing his deceased older brother.

Scott also had the challenge of being the leader of a ranger team in a world that has already been destroyed by the main villain. It was his duty to keep the remaining citizens of Corinth safe from the evil clutches of Venjix’s army.

It was Scott’s determination as well as his ability to take his role as leader seriously that put him as number 5 on our list.

4. Jason Lee Scott (Mighty Morphin)

“You guys weren’t gonna do this without the original red ranger?”

– Forever Red.

Alright, so I am sure that this is going to be a controversial placement, but Jason comes in at number 4 on our list.

He is sure, pure, and strong. He believes in his team, he believes in the power of good. He is always ready to go into action. He did so much in his 1st season and with the comics “Go Go Power Rangers” and “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” we got so much more depth to his life, emotions and decisions.

Ever since Jason became a Red Ranger, he was a leader. Even when something goes wrong, he is always the first one who tries to correct it. He was always willing to save people, including Tommy when he was evil. After Tommy lost his powers, Jason put the blame on himself for not saving him.

After saving his team from losing their powers as well, Tommy sent Jason a letter stating that he didn’t blame Jason for losing his powers. Jason continues to thrive thanks to his return in Power Rangers Beast Morphers as well.

Jason is a true legend in the Power Ranger history books and that’s why he is number 4 on our list.

3. Jack Landors (S.P.D.)

Coming in at number 3 on our list is Jack Landors from Power Rangers S.P.D.

Jack was someone who wanted to do good for others and he and his running mate Z did that by stealing whatever was needed for poor families in New Tech City. Of course, it got them busted and in jail, but given a new chance he became the SPD Red Ranger. He learned the responsibility of being an SPD officer and how to lead a team into battle.

His relationship with Sky made for some very interesting conflict in this season as Sky felt he was much more qualified than Jack to be the leader of the team, considering he had actually gone through the training program. Jack had to prove to his team that was capable of being a leader and did a fine job of it once he gained his footing.

He was set as the Red Ranger it seemed, but a new path was made and he had to choose what he wanted. He stepped down and continue to make a difference in the way that worked for him. There were no regrets he knew it was the right thing.

His ability to rise up in such unorthodox circumstances is what puts Jack as number 3 on our list.

Wes Collins (Time Force)

Coming in at number 2 is the only Red Ranger on our list that didn’t serve as the leader of their team; Wes Collins.

After getting everything he wants his whole life, Wes Collins wanted a change. He found it after team leader Jen Scotts tried to get him to unlock the Chrono Morphers to help stop evil. Not only did Wes do that, but he decided to join the team as Time Force Red. Wes then took his ranger counterparts under his wing and helped them adjust to the past.

While not the leader of the Time Force rangers Wes proved to be a very useful asset to the Time Force rangers. When he was temporarily replaced by his predecessor Alex, it was clear that the team needed Wes as the Red Ranger on their team.

Wes also tried to develop a brotherly relationship with Eric, which does happen at the end of the series. Even after his time as a Time Force Ranger, he joined the Silver Guardians with Eric as his partner and also helped create the Transportal Devices which allows rangers from different dimensions to meet. Wes also had his romantic relationship with Jen which ended up being one of the most beloved relationships in the show’s history.

It was Wes’ ability in battle as well as is relationships with his fellow teammates that put him as number 2 on our list.

Andros (In Space)

Finally, number 1 on our list goes to Andros from Power Rangers in Space.

He joined the scene as a teen wanting to become a Power Ranger. After he did, he became the Red Space Ranger. With the help of his friend Zhane, they defended the galaxy from evil until Zhane was wounded badly and had to be frozen to be kept alive.

After this, he became a loner, only wanting to work with himself and didn’t trust people due to him being distant from others. When the Turbo Rangers accidentally boarded his ship, he believed they were intruders until Andros decided to trust them and let them become Space Rangers.

His main struggle was his disappearance of his sister, Karone. After it is discovered that Astronema is Karone, he makes it his mission to make her good again. In the finale, he finds Zordon on Astronema’s Dark Fortress. Zordon convinces Andros that the only way to save the galaxy would be to destroy him. Andros does this, saving the galaxy as well as his sister.

Andros was a leader who already lost his team once and didn’t want to lose another team. This aspect of his character gave him a certain deepness that other Red Rangers before him didn’t really have. This is what made Andros unique for his other Red Ranger counterpart, earning him the number one spot on our list.
