KAMEN RIDER Decade Returns with 20+21

A new trailer has just been dropped by the Official Toei Tokusatsu Fan Club (TTFC) on their Twitter and on Nihon Hero. Kamen Rider Decade has returned once more in the third installment of Kamen Rider Zi-O’s (2018) spin-off series, Rider Time. Kamen Rider Zi-O was the 20th and final season of Kamen Rider’s Heisei era, which involved the main character, Sougo traveling through time to other Kamen Rider eras to fight villains that stole the powers of the riders of their respective time periods and alter the future. Sougo must also prevent a future wherein he becomes a tyrannical ruler of the world.

The show features a lot of time travel, and events have resulted in multiple possible timelines. Rider Time is a spin-off that explores some of the alternate timelines. One featured an alternate telling of Kamen Rider Ryuki (2002), where Zi-O and Geiz were also made to participate in the 13-rider war. The other featured a future rider from an alternate 2022, named Kamen Rider Shinobi.  Both installments were three episodes long, and this one will as well. The three episodes will air on February 9th, 14th, and 21st respectively.

There isn’t much information revealed yet about the third installment, Rider Time: Zi-O vs Decade (2021) beyond the trailer. What is known is that there will be 7 people masquerading as Kamen Rider Zi-O, and it will involve Tsukasa Kodoya (played by Masahiro Inoue), and a cameo from Kamen Rider Saber. The first teaser for it was first featured in the end credits for Episode 4 of Kamen Rider Saber Spin-off: Swordsman Chronicles (2020).

On January 12th, 2021, Inoue (humorously dubbed by fans as “The JDF of Kamen Rider” for his frequent appearances on the show) had a video on youtube where he shared some of his Kamen Rider Decade (2009) memorabilia and referenced that in the upcoming spin-off, will get a new Final Form, wherein instead of having his original Final Form which featured cards of the previous 9 riders, will reflect riders that came after his season.

A trailer was released on the TTFC twitter page on January 16th 2021. In it, we finally get a look at the mentioned updated Final form, which not only included all the riders up to Zi-O, but also Zero-One from the Reiwa era, for a grand total of 21 riders represented in his costume design. Additionally, Zi-O gets a new Rider Watch (Gimmick toy used by Zi-O to utilize powers of other riders) of Kamen Rider Saber.

What do you think of Decade’s new form? Are you planning on getting Saber’s Rider Watch? What are some of your predictions for this new story? Let us know in the comments below and on our Twitter page.

Since I first came to the US in 1995, I was immediately enamored with superheroes like Spiderman and Batman. Above all, I fell in love with tokusatsu such as Power Rangers and VR Troopers. I loved the stuntwork, costumes, special effects and writing. This developed into my passion for Kamen Rider, which I have thusfar seen every episode of. I used these passions to develop my own skills in martial-arts, filming, and creative writing. Combining these skills with my interest I ended up being part of a Kamen Rider focused podcast and a write for Illuminerdi.
