Black Panther’s Angela Bassett On “Irreplaceable” Chadwick Boseman’s Secret Fight and Not Being Recast in Sequel

2020 was full of immense challenges for everyone around the world. However, nobody truly knew the extreme challenges that Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman was going through until died of colon cancer last August.

Fans have since speculated what Boseman’s passing could mean for the upcoming sequel movie and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole.

In an interview with ET, Boseman’s co-star Angela Bassett commented on his passing and how they plan to go forward without Boseman in Black Panther 2:

Black Panther 2 Without Black Panther

“It’s a tremendous loss, but Kevin and the Marvel universe and Ryan [Coogler], the director, the writer from before, they are committed to telling [a story] and equally as much as we can, equally planned. So we are looking forward to that. Looking forward to what they come up with.”

Basset also explains that Kevin Feige and director Ryan Coogler had to do some major shuffling because at the time no one had known of Boseman’s illness.

“Our brother held it really close, really close to the chest. But his legacy, his loss, the love and appreciation that we have for who he was and what he shared with us cannot be [replaced]… It is missed and appreciated and cannot be duplicated. It’s a tremendous honor and, yes, he is completely irreplaceable.”
