The Suicide Squad seems to be a massive hit with if the early reactions from critics and audiences have anything to say about it and it’s all seemingly in part due to writer/director, James Gunn. While we know he is going back to Marvel Studios to The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he might be returning to the world of DC sooner than we think.
At The Suicide Squad‘s premiere, DC Film boss Walter Hamada told The Hollywood Reporter that not only had Gunn discussed new ideas with them but that he’s already coming back after the aforementioned Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Speaking to THR, he said, “He’ll be back. We have more stuff planned”. Hamada didn’t say what he’s returning to do though.
James Gunn Is Here To Stay
Personally, I love this. While I haven’t seen The Suicide Squad just yet, I am a big fan of the majority of Gunn’s work and I cannot wait to see what he does. I hope we see a sequel to The Suicide Squad after the reception it’s getting or the Gotham City Sirens film that David Ayer never did. I personally think that a project that could happen is a Lobo film. That character has been through development hell multiple times but I think Gunn could make it work.
James Gunn’s next projects after The Suicide Squad are Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which come out in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
