Just a few days ago, in a fresh exclusive from Deadline, Clancy Brown was revealed to be joining the cast of John Wick: Chapter 4 in a mystery role.
Regarding the casting, veteran Wick director Chad Stahelski praised the actor simply without revealing any plot or character details for the next installment in the bloody neo-noir saga of vengeance.
“I have been a fan of Clancy Brown’s since I can remember. To have him be a part of this project is an honor. He will make a perfect addition to the World of John Wick!”
A Short History of Clancy Brown
Clancy Brown has had a colorful career in Hollywood over the past few decades, with a resume including Dexter: New Blood, Promising Young Woman, Netflix’s Daredevil and The Punisher, CW’s The Flash, Shawshank Redemption, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, as well as the voices of Lex Luthor in the DC Animated Universe and Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob SquarePants.

With his iconic deep voice, Clancy Brown is often cast in villainous roles, but the master actor manages to always imbue his characters with a nuanced layer of sympathy, and sometimes even comedy. It’ll be very interesting to see what he could bring to a role in the “gun fu” action world of John Wick.
Brown joins an all-star roster of new and old faces. Besides returning stars Keanu Reeves, Lance Riddick, Ian McShane, and Laurence Fishburne, the new sequel has also been confirmed to feature the exciting talents of Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgård, and Scott Adkins in mostly unknown roles.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is the first film without original writer Derek Kolstad, but the second Wick film with a writing credit by 27-year-old Shay Hatten. Hatten burst onto the scene with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the success of which lead directly to Hatten’s involvement on John Wick 4, 5, and the Ballerina spinoff, as well as Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves, and Rebel Moon for Zack Snyder at Netflix.
Wick 4 is also being co-written by Michael Finch, who’s best known for his work on Predators and Hitman: Agent 47. Although John Wick 4 and 5 were initially announced to film back-to-back, COVID seems to have changed these plans, leading to only Wick 4 being filmed this summer.
Filming on John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently underway, with “most of the shoot” expected to be set in Berlin and Paris and a few scenes in New York City and Japan, making it the first primarily international John Wick movie. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters next Memorial Day weekend on May 27, 2022. John Wick 5 and Ballerina are still yet to be dated, and the same for the Continental spinoff TV show (though Stahelski has already been confirmed to direct the pilot).
