Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes, has tried on the legendary suit.
Warner Bros. has their hands full in preparations for their next wave of DC films, some we’re excited about, others, not so much. While Matt Reeves’ The Batman is their next major blockbuster on their release schedule, Warner Bros. has been quite active in organizing other DC projects, namely the former HBO Max exclusive, The Blue Beetle, the now fully primed theatrical release. Actor, Parenthood alum, and Cobra Kai legend, Xolo Maridueña will carry the Scarab on his back starring in the Angel Manuel Soto-directed film, which is set to release in theaters, August 18th, 2023.
Xolo Maridueña Talks About The Blue Beetle Suit
Little is known about the project, other than it’s about a teenage boy who gets a beetle from outer space stuck on his back and becomes a superhero. Interestingly though, in a recent interview with USA Today about the fourth season of Cobra Kai, the actor confirmed that they’ve already tested out the suit.
“We’ve done two suit fittings. They’re hoping that I get more buff by the time we actually start filming. But I’ve seen the suit, and it looks awesome.”

Great Prospects For The Blue Beetle
He’s undoubtedly thrilled about the role, which has been his been dream role for quite some time now. It’s very refreshing to hear that the suit will have practical elements, as opposed to full CGI, it’s a subtle indication of how ambitious The Blue Beetle will be. Given the suit’s animated nature with an extraterrestrial aesthetic, this won’t be an easy design to adapt even if the concept art shared during DC FanDome looked quite spectacular.
We can’t wait to see how they bring the cyber-organic alien suit to life and whether or not they’ll play around with the fact that Jaime Reyes’ design originally doesn’t include a nose when he’s in his suit. I’m also curious to see if his mouth will be visible in the suit. It’ll be interesting to see what elements from the comic books are translated to the film, and how they’re executed.
I can’t wait to see Xolo Maridueña in action as The Blue Beetle, how about you? Be sure to let us know down in the comments below. If you like what you read, be sure to follow us on Twitter or Facebook so you don’t miss more DC content like this in the future!
