The long-awaited sequel to Grand Theft Auto Five has finally started development.
Grand Theft Auto Five, or GTA 5, is considered one of the best video games ever made. The game broke many sales records during its initial launch in 2013, including the fastest-selling media or entertainment product in history. The game is also the seventh main installment of Rockstar’s popular franchise. The fifth game in the series takes place in a fictionalized version of Los Angeles called Los Santos. Los Santos also appeared in a previous GTA game called San Andreas.Â

Grand Theft Auto 5’s story centers around three main playable protagonists, retired bank robber Michael De Santa, drug dealer Trevor Philipps, and street gangster Franklin Clinton. All three become involved in committing heists while being forced to work for a corrupt government agency and compelling criminals.
GRAND THEFT AUTO 6 FINALLY GETS ANNOUNCED
After the successful release of the award-winning game, millions of fans wished for a sequel and waited many years for any update on a sixth game. Rockstar would, however, constantly update their Grand Theft Auto 5 Online multiplayer game to keep fans entertained – not to mention to keep the game relevant or replayable. Even though the online game is a massive and critical success, fans still wanted a sequel. Finally, nine long years after Grand Theft Auto 5’s initial launch, Rockstar finally made an official announcement for the sixth film.Â
Rockstar announced on their official Twitter account that they have started development for Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar also revealed that they would try to make more content and features than GTA 5 offered. This statement is exciting, because the bar is high: GTA 5 alone, without the online features and extra add-ons, was already a critical success thanks to the ability to play three characters with unique storylines and many missions.
Rockstar, in their big announcement, explained that:
“Many of you have been asking about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.”… “With every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we’ve previously delivered. We’re pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the series is underway.”

GTA 5 will forever be one of gaming’s most popular and greatest video games. It made $1B three days after its release on its original launch for the Playstation 3. It was also nominated for numerous awards and won most of them. Hopefully, once Grand Theft Auto 6 finally releases, it can have the same massive success as its predecessor – or reach even grander heights.
