Australian Survivor Blood V Water Episode 5 Review – Sisters Reunited

Today's episode of Australian Survivor has fans talking. Find out why in our review for the fifth episode!

Why Alex’s Quit Is So Confusing

While I do sympathize with Alex and understand that he must have been in a lot of pain after injuring his back in the first episode and competing in such a physical challenge this episode his quit doesn’t make a lot of sense here.

We have seen a fair share of medical evacuations in Survivor and when a player is injured they usually are met with a medical examination. The medical staff decides whether or not the player is still able to compete or not. Clearly, Alex was never under immediate concern from medical as if he was he would have been evacuated in episode 1. Now I would like to preface that Alex knows his body the most, so if he felt he needed to be removed, he should have been removed.

However, even with that in consideration, it makes zero sense for him to quit at Tribal Council. His tribe was in a perfect spot to either take out one of the biggest threats in the game or take out Sophie who has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. It would have made much more sense for Alex to conduct the vote with his tribe and then if still feels he needs to quit, he can do so after Tribal or at camp the next day. His quit will without a doubt go down as one of the most bizarre quits in Survivor history. We’ll see how this ends up affecting the blue tribe in the next episode.

Adressing Sophies Actions On And Off Of The Show

While I understand being upset about being voted off, Sophie in this episode came off as cruel at times and seemed to continue to dig her own grave in the game while attempting to take her alliance members down with her.

Her alliance understandably wanted to distance themselves from her after they were put in the minority after the last vote. They were put into an incredibly difficult spot when they were forced to reunite with her at the reward challenge. At this point, they are just trying to save their own games and Sophie is on the other tribe. It is perfectly understandable for them to be apprehensive about having conversations with her.

Now for her actions outside of the game. I am not an Australian so I know nothing about the cast’s following or social standing outside of the game, but supposedly Sophie had quite a large social media following before her appearance on Survivor. After today’s episode, many of her fans have decided to harass Sam Gash for blindsiding her last episode. Sophie has also accused the production of rigging the game against her, despite rumors that Survivor actually paid her extra to appear on the season.

Regardless of who was paid and what rumors you want to believe, harassing other contestants online is never okay and is completely unacceptable. Especially in a game that is all about lying and deceit. Blindsides are just a part of the game and I guarantee that if Sophie was on the other side of the vote she would be saying the same thing. I am incredibly disappointed in Sophie’s action on and off of the show and fully support Sam after these online attacks.

EPISODE 5 HIGHLIGHT PLAYERS

In this section of the review, we will take a chance to take a look at some of the highlight players in today’s episode of Australian Survivor. Those players are Ben, Khahn, and KJ.

Starting with Ben, he quite literally carried his tribe to victory in today’s immunity challenge. His performance was absolutely stunning and could become a huge physical threat come the merge. Nonetheless, that immunity challenge was awesome to watch and I cannot wait to see how he continues to perform in the future.

Next up is Khahn who was on the chopping block tonight and while it will be impossible to know whether or not he would have made the right move it seemed like he had a good grasp at what was going on. I actually thought the blue tribe did a fairly good job at trying to make Khahn feel safe, however, he seemed to see through their lies and was ready to play his idol which would have sent Sophie home. In the preview, it also seems like he could be setting up an alliance with Sophie which would definitely be interesting, to say the least.

Lastly is KJ who did a really good job trying to save her sister in this episode. While I do believe that Khahn would have played his idol anyway it was still a really good plan that would have either flushed an idol, so either way would have been a win or an almost win for KJ.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON AUSTRALIAN SURVIVOR: BLOOD V WATER EPISODE 5

Overall whether it be Sophie’s actions or the questionable timing of Alex’s quit, this episode was incredibly frustrating to watch. While I love some good Survivor drama, in this episode it seemed completely unnecessary, especially when it came to Sophie’s former alliance. After Sophie’s actions outside of the game, it doesn’t seem like the drama will end any time soon.
