Toei announces that Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will be delayed indefinitely.
It’s a sad time to be a Dragon Ball fan, especially if you love the Super series and have been awaiting its upcoming film. Toei has announced that the newest Dragon Ball film, based on Super: Super Hero, will be delayed. The film was initially supposed to release next month on April 22, 2022.

Dragon Ball Super is the fifth anime series in the ultra popular franchise. The series first premiered on July 5, 2015 and ended its run on March 25, 2018. Based on the manga by original creator Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball Super is set right after the Z anime. Right after the final battle with antagonist Majin Buu, in fact. The series consisted of 131 episodes and received mixed to positive reviews from critics. Dragon Ball Super also has two films as tie-ins: the recent Broly and the upcoming Super Hero.
What To Expect When You’re Expecting Dragon Ball Super
The plot of Super Hero will involve the return of the Red Ribbon Army. In the Dragon Ball series, the Red Ribbon Army is a paramilitary organization whose primary goal was conquering the world. To achieve their devious goal, they planned on searching and collecting the seven mythical Dragon Balls. The paramilitary organization appeared as the main antagonist in many Dragon Ball series arcs.
Those arcs were Red Ribbon Army Saga (Dragon Ball), Android, and Cell Sagas (Dragon Ball Z), the Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13 movie, and The History Of Trunks and Dragon Ball: The Path To Power (TV Special). The villainous army will appear again as the main antagonists in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Sadly, however, as mentioned earlier, the film release date has been delayed.
Super Hero Becomes Super Delayed
According to Toei Animation and Toei Co. Ltd, the reason behind Super Hero’s delay was a data breach causing damage to their studio. This breach has also affected other Toei-related properties such as Dragon Quest, Digimon, One Piece, etc. To address the issue, Toei released an official statement regarding Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero being delayed a month before its original release date.

Toei explained that:
“As previously reported, the movie “Dragon Ball Super Super Hero“, which was scheduled to be released nationwide from April 22 (Friday), was released due to unauthorized access to the network by a third party at the production company Toei Animation. It became a difficult situation to produce. Therefore, we would like to inform you that we have no choice but to postpone the release.
We are very sorry to everyone who is looking forward to the release. We will announce the new release date in the near future, so please wait for a while. Thank you for your understanding. Please keep the advance tickets you have already purchased as they will be available after the new release date.”
Toei
The news of Super Hero’s release date having a delay is indeed sad. I was very excited to watch the upcoming animated film when it came out in theaters. It is unfortunate what happened, and hopefully, Toei resolves the data breach as soon as possible. But once Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’s new release date is announced, I will reserve my tickets and plan to watch it on the film’s opening day.
