April 2022: New Movies You Don’t Want To Miss

APRIL 2022 Movies

Dual

Dual is RLJE Films’ satirical sci-fi thriller film written, directed, and produced by Riley Stearns. It stars Karen Gillan, Beulah Koale, Theo James, Maija Paunio, and Aaron Paul. The plot follows a woman who tries to destroy a clone of herself. The premise of the film itself is interesting.

Synopsis: Set in the near future, upon receiving a terminal diagnosis, Sarah (Gillan) opts for a cloning procedure of herself and trains the clone to feel like her, to ease her loss on her friends and family. But then Sara makes a sudden and miraculous recovery, which drives her to a new problem: in the society of the future, humans cannot exist for longer than the time limit of their clones. So her attempts to have her clone decommissioned fail and lead to a court-mandated duel to the death. By law, she has one year to train her body and mind for the fight of her life.

Stearns is known for his movies that are a perfect mix of humor and seriousness, his previous film The Art of Self-Defense (2019) was a cleverly made film that is dark and comedic. So we can expect Dual to be in that zone. And Gillan will be perfect for this style as she is known for her comedy and action roles.

The film premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival on January 22 and received great reviews. Dual brings writer-director Riley Stearns’ signature deadpan style to bear on a smart sci-fi comedy that’s well-led by Karen Gillan in dual roles.

The R-rated thriller so far has an 80% RT score based on 76 reviews with praise for the writer-director, the story, and Gillan. It is scheduled to be released in limited theatres on April 15 and digitally on-demand on May 20. This is a must-watch film.

Dual release date: April 15, 2022

Synopsis: In this film, a crackerjack criminal crew of animal outlaws are about to attempt their most challenging con yet–becoming model citizens. Never have there been five friends as infamous as The Bad Guys–dashing pickpocket Mr. Wolf (Rockwell), seen-it-all safecracker Mr. Snake (Maron), chill master-of-disguise Mr. Shark (Robinson), short-fused “muscle” Mr. Piranha (Ramos) and sharp-tongued expert hacker Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina), aka “Webs.”

But when, after years of countless heists and being the world’s most-wanted villains, the gang is finally caught, Mr. Wolf brokers a deal (that he has no intention of keeping) to save them all from prison: The Bad Guys will go good. Under the tutelage of their mentor Professor Marmalade (Ayoade), an arrogant (but adorable!) guinea pig, The Bad Guys set out to fool the world that they’ve been transformed. Along the way, though, Mr. Wolf begins to suspect that doing good for real may give him what he’s always secretly longed for acceptance. So when a new villain threatens the city, can Mr. Wolf persuade the rest of the gang to become… The Good Guys?

The Bad Guys began its theatrical release in several international markets, starting on March 16, 2022, and now it is scheduled for a wide release on April 22. It received positive reviews from critics.
