With CinemaCon going on, news about coming films will be coming in hot and fast. With the Rona being better dealt with for the time being, and hopefully forever, movies are looking to make a huge comeback. So every studio is vying to grab our attention. Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed the first look at Margot Robbie as the iconic Mattel figure, Barbie. In the image, we see what looks to be a whole Barbie dream life set brought to life. There is what looks to be a house in the background, the dream car, and a summer outfit that is just oh-so chic.

Simu Liu Shares Barbie First Look

Quoting lines from Aqua’s legendary song “Barbie Girl,” Simu Liu shares the first look of Margot Robbie as the iconic children’s toy that has delighted generations of fans. Barbara Milicent Roberts, aka Barbie, is an 11-inch, roughly 1/6th scale, fashion doll manufactured by Mattel, Inc. She is the figurehead of the company’s doll brand which includes other family members, playsets, vehicles, video games, movies, and more. She has been a staple of the culture since she was first introduced in March 1959.

A live-action adaptation feature film of Barbie originally began development in 2014. Following multiple writer and director changes, and the casting of different actresses to play the title character, Warner Bros. Pictures got the rights and announced the casting of Margot Robbie as the icon in 2019. Robbie will also serve as a producer on the film under LuckyChap Entertainment alongside Heyday Films and Mattel Films.

In addition to Margo Robbie, numerous high-profile performers have been cast in the film. Performers like America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Micahel Cera, Will Ferrell, and Ryan Gosling as Ken. The screenplay was written by Noah Baum Bach and Greta Gerwig, who is also directing the film. Principal photography on the film began in March 2022 in the United Kingdom at the Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden. When speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Robbie shared her goals for the film,

…we like the things that feel a little left of center. Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different — the thing you didn’t know you wanted.’ Now, can we truly honor the IP and the fan base and also surprise people? Because if we can do all that and provoke a thoughtful conversation, then we’re really firing on all cylinders.

Being 6’ 4” and Asian, he never really fit in, so he got comfortable standing out. Not only is it easy to find him in crowds, he dabbles in the culinary arts, does a little stand up and improv, and can honestly say Spider-Man is the Jesus-like influence of his life.
