The beloved bear we know and love is getting a dark horror film. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is reimagining the children’s book character into a serial killer story.

The indie horror title is currently in production by director Rhys Frake-Waterfield. This debut is a very interesting take, but fans have mixed feelings about it already. The cast includes Craig David-Dowsett as Winnie, with Chris Cordell as Piglet. Other characters include a “Caged Man” and “Mauled Woman.”

The original Winnie the Pooh first became popular in the year 1926 when the picture book collection The House at Pooh Corner that AA Milne wrote with illustrator EH Shepard. The ravenous bear then became a household name in 1961, thanks to Walt Disney turning the children’s books into a series of films – which have continued until recent years.

Take a look below at some of the newly released images and see what you think of the twist on such a beloved children’s classic.

Winnie The Pooh Loves Blood Now As Much A Honey

The film is being made by the London-based Jagged Edge Productions, which also made The Curse of Humpty Dumpty and The Legend of Jack and Jill. They got a head start on putting a bloody take on childhood stories, but how are they able to make this movie?

Winnie the Pooh is a big character with Disney at this point after the studio turned A.A. Milne’s classic children’s books into a collection of movies and the recent Christopher Robin film. Disney had the special rights to the character but, Milne’s work entered the public domain earlier this year, meaning that anyone can now adapt these classic characters as they see fit. We weren’t expecting it get super dark so quickly.

The details are small about the movie and with no official synopsis just yet we don’t know what the film is about. The director gave a little hint saying the pair of best friends scavenge for food which has become scarce following Christopher’s departure to college. We don’t know if that is a hint to the plot but we could see it through the photos.

The images look as though Winnie and Piglet will be killers wearing the iconic character masks. The film’s IMDB page states that it’s “A horror retelling of the famous legend of Winnie the Pooh.” We will definitely be keeping an eye out for this film and to see how it will turn out. You know it’s not every day you see Winnie the Pooh with a hammer and Piglet helping him kill for food.

Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey caught us by surprise and had fans blowing up Twitter by voicing their opinion about this movie. Is it a good idea or bad idea? Will it retroactively sour your view of the adorable honey-loving bear Disney showcased all these years? I guess we will find out soon and we will keep you updated on the latest with the chubby bear and the little pig. Let us know down in the comments or on our social media!
